To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that We, ANDREW D. BAIRD and EFFIE J FAVOR, citizens of the United,

States, and residents of Medford, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have made certain newy and useful* Improvements in VVashing-Machines, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to washing machines, and "more particularly to portable washing machines.

One of the principal objects of the inven tion is to provide a portable clothes carry' ing drum and means for quickly and easily attaching it to a stationary tub', and for rotating the drum when in position.

Another object of the invention is to provide a pair of brackets or hangers adapted to be secured to the walls of a stationary tub, to support a rotary clothes carrying drum, the brackets also provided with means for rotating the drum in supported position.

A further object of the 'invention' is to provide a device of the class described which will be simple, durable, efficient in operationand comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

lVith these and other objects in view, which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides. in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the'accompanying drawing, in W-hich like characters ci reference indicate like parts throughout the several figures, of which,

Referring more particularly to the drawingthe invention is illustrated as applied to a stationary tub comprising a bottom 5, end walls 6, side walls 7 and supports 8, for maintaining the tub in raised position over a floor or other base. Tothe end walls 6 of the tub are removably attached substantially inverted U-shaped hangers 9 and 10,

A thumb bolt 4 extends through the outer leg of hanger 9 for removably securing said hanger .to its end wall.

the tub and is of a length corresponding to the-inner leg of hanger` 9, and leg 17 is proy vided at its lower end with an opening to receive a bearing pin 18 Vcarried by a hexagonal block 19v which forms one end of a drum 20, the other end of which is formed of a similar hexagonal block 21 supported by means of a bearing pin 22 in the lower end of a recess 23 cut in the inner leg of hanger 9 in the same horizontal plane as the opening in the leg 17 so that the drum may be supported horizontally and rotatably within the tub.

The hexagonal blocks are connected by longitudinally disposed spaced bars 24 secured at their ends to said blocks. One face of the drum thus formed is provided with transverse bars 25 connecting 'the bars forming that face, said face or wall of the drum being hinged as at 26 and provided with a hook 27 adapted to engage an eye in one of the bars 24 so that a closure is provided for the drum, whereby goods to be washed may be placed in or removed from the drum.

The bearing pin 18 is of such a length as to space block 19 from the adjacent leg 17, and on said pin between the block and leg is secured a large sprocket wheel 28 connected by means of a chain 29 with a smaller sprocket wheel 30 secured at the inner end of a shaft 31 journaled horizontally and transversely of the back portion of hanger 10, the outer end of shaft 31 carrying a pulley 32 connected by means of a belt 33 with a driving pulley 34 to the shaft of the the Way,

By this construction it is evident that the Washing drurnmay be easily cleaned and may when not in use, either be left in the tub, Where it is inconspicuous and out ot' or it may be removed, together With the hangers, to be stored in a-suitable place until needed.

Although We have shown the drivingmeans between the shaft 31 and the drum x as comprising sprockets and a chain, it is may desireh to make such changes in the constructioncombin'ation and arrangement of the partsof the invention as do not depart from the spirit thereof, and the scope of the appended claim.

Ve claim A Washing machine comprising-a tub, a drum, means for removably positioning said drum within the tub, said means including a hanger having a back portion spanning one Wall ofthe tub, 'legs depending from the back portion Within'and Without the tub,

said legs being ofv substantially equal length,

the outer leg provided With clamping means removed considerably from` the' back portion, said back portion being extended to either side of the common plane of the legs,
