Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
LEVI B. TARBOX,A OF COLLIERSVILLE, NEV YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN M EAT-TENDERERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. I 12,092, dated February 2l, 1ST] g antedatcd February 1G, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, L. B. TARBOX, of Colliersville, in the county of Otsego and State of N ew York7 have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Making Meat Tender; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the aec0mpanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction an d arrangement of a device for making meat tender, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertai ns to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a side view; and Fig. 2, a plan view, part of the top being broken away.
A represents the bottom or bed-piece of my device, provided at one end with standards B B, to which the top C is hinged by means of a rod, a, which passes through holes in ears b Z), attached to the rear end ofthe top, and through vertical slots in the standards. In these slots in the standards, above the pin a., are inserted rubber blocks c, for a purpose that will be hereinafter described. The upper surface of the bottom A and the lower surface of the top C are provided each with a series of parallel ows of pointed diamond-shaped projections,
t z', so arrangedas to fit in between each other when the top is brought down.
The meat is laid on the bottoni A, and the top brought down on the saine by means of the handle D,which projects from the front end thereof. By bearing down upon the handle D, the projections t t' will break or crush the fibers ot' the meat, rendering the same tender. The rubber pieces e c, inserted above the -pin a in the standards B B, allow the hinged end of the top C to yield or give upward, thereby preventing breakage, and insuring an equal pressure upon all parts of the meat.
At the front end of the top C two screwpins, d (Z, are passed through it, which pins strike the bottom A, and prevent thetop from coming down any farther. By turning these pins, the top may be brought as close to the bottom as may be desired.
I-Iaving thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the bottom A, standards B B, top C, handle D, pin a, rubber blocks e e, projections i' i, and screw-pins d d, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
