SUPPORT FOR WASHING-MACHINES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE N. I-IEDRIoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danese, in the county of Fayette and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for WVashing-WIachines, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Thisinvention relates to new and useful improvements in supports for washing machines, the object of the invention being to provide a support of the above character which is hingedly secured to a rigid base so that the machine can be easily tilted upon its side to empty the water from the tub.
Another object of the invention is to provide a support of the above character which will possess advantages in points of efliciency and durability, is inexpensive to manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a top plan view, and Fig. 3 is a sectional View on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the base which comprises the longitudinal side pieces 2 suitably connected at their ends by the cross pieces 3, said cross pieces being reduced at their ends as shown at 4E and adapted to be rigidly secured within the openings 5 formed in the ends of the side pieces 2 and held securely in place by means of the pins 6. The base 1 is rigidly secured to the floor or other stationary object by means of the screw bolts 7 passing through the transverse end pieces 3, said end pieces being suitably protected from the wear of the head of the bolts by means ofthe plates 8.
Hingedly secured to the longitudinal side pieces 2 at one end thereof by the hinges 12 is the supporting member 9 which comprises the spaced uprights 10 suitably connected together adjacent their upper ends by means of the cross pieces 11 which form a suitable seat upon which the washing machine or tub is adapted to rest, the upper ends of the uprights 10 extending upwardly beyond Specification of Letters Patent.

the cross pieces 11 so as to prevent lateral movement of the washing machine or tub when in position. Secured to the side of the supporting member opposite the hinges 12 are the angular plates 13 which are provided with the elongated openings 14 adapted to receive the pivoted keys 15 when the same are arranged in longitudinal alinement with the side pieces 2. The stems 16 of the keys 15 are provided upon their lower ends with the enlarged heads 17 which are disposed beneath the keeper plates 18 and arranged within the recesses 19. Thus it will be seen that the washing machine tub can be quickly emptied by arranging the keys 15 in alinement with the slots 14 so that the supporting member 9 can be easily tilted, the hinges l2 permitting this act-ion.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be readily apparent that I have provided a simple and efficient washing machine support which will not only afford a securely rigid support for the washing machine but can be quickly and easily tilted to empty the contents of the washing machine.
'While I have shown and described the preferred form of myinvention it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope thereof.
What I claim is 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a rigid base, a supporting member hingedly secured to the base at one end thereof, said supporting member comprising spaced uprights, cross pieces suitably connecting said uprights adjacent their upper ends, and means carried by the supporting member opposite the hinges and adapted to engage means upon the base to securely hold the supporting member in its upright position.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a base comprising longitudinal side pieces, transverse pieces connecting the ends of the longitudinal pieces, means carried by the transverse pieces for rigidly securing the base to a stationary support, a supporting member hingedly secured to the base at one end thereof, said supporting member comprising spaced uprights, having cross pieces connecting the same adjacent their upper ends, angular plates secured to the supporting member opposite the hinges, and means carried by the base and adapted to engage the angular plates to hold the support-ing member in an upright position.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a base comprising longitudinal side pieces, transverse end pieces connecting the ends of the longitudinal pieces, means carried by the transverse pieces for rigidly securing the base to a stationary support, a supporting member hingedly secured to the side pieces adjacent one end thereof, said supporting member comprising spaced uprights, cross pieces secured to said uprights adjacent their upper ends to suitably connect the same, angular plates secured to the supporting member opposite the hinges, the horizontal portions of said plates being provided With elongated openings, and rotatable locking keys adapted to be disposed in said openings With the heads thereof arranged transversely across the same to securely hold the supporting member in an upright position, said keys being turned and the heads arranged in line With the openings to allow the supporting member to be tilted.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses. GEORGE N. HEDRIOK. Witnesses:
