and State ofWisconsimhave invented certam new and useful'Improvements 1n Shop- Door Latches, of which the following 1s a specification. 1
My inventlon relates to improvements in door latches for shops and for which a patent was issued to me June 17,1913, 'No.
1,064,800, but more particularly to'the handles for the same, the construction, and
method of attaching the said handles to the sliding plate of the latch and to the fulcrum plate attached to the opposite side of the door.
The objects of my invention are, to construct a simple and more convenient handle which can be attached and held in position without the aid of the cotter pins employed in the previous 'and heretofore mentioned patent.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1, is a plan of my latch with the top of the bolt race removed and the handles 4 and 5, in section through the sliding plate, Fig. 2, is a vertical section through a door and the latch on line R-S, Fig. 1. The casing 1, is made from a plate-of steel with a squareholt race raised and extending xlongitudinally through its middle line to the rear, which is closed and hasa hole punched through it for the passage of the tang 9 of bolt 3. Portions of the closure around the hole acting as the seat and rear stop for the actuating spring 7 On both I sides of the bolt race just forward of the ing plate 2. The bolt 3, is a' steelchannelangula rly closedat the front end .and terminating at the rear in a round tang 9 adapted to carry the actuating spring 7,.and having a portion r removed from the lower edges to secure to and cooperate with the sliding plate 2. i
The handles 4 and 5, are formed from a bar of round steel straight on the front side, with semi-circular top and bottom sections terminating in two parallel prongs at right angles to the front. The said prongs are each adjacent the curved portions of the handles, groovedon opposite sides forming necks, which secure the said handles in op- I erative position in the slotted holes 10, one V in the sliding plate2, and one in the fulcrum plate 6,the free ends of both handles passing through the'round holes in the opposite plates, thereto, thereby adjusting them to various thicknesses of doors.
On the opposite side of the door from the casingl, is a stationary member-6,which is made from steel and contains "two holes 10 round at one end and slotted laterally, corresponding to the holes in sliding plate 2, but are disposed with the slotted holes in one member. opposite the round holes inthe other.
The said member is secured to the door by four screws ad acent its corners be-' ing the fulcrum and in connection with plate 2, carries the two bifurcated handles 4: and, i
