ARTHUR BINETTE AND JOHN PETRO, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
FIRE-STARTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 8, 1914.
Application filed July 7, 1914. Serial No. 849,458
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, ARTHUR Binn'rrn and J 0.1-IN ln'rno, citizens of the United States, residing at l/Vaterbury, in the county of New Haven, State of Connecticutyhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in F ire-Starters; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame.
This invention relates to improvements in fire starters and particularly to devices for starting coal fires without the use of wood or charcoal.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple device which can be readily placed in the ash pit of the stove and which can be easily connected with a gas stove or gas jet, the device being readily removable when not needed.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a portion of a kitchen range showing our invention in position. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device the stand being folded. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 1 is a horizontal sectional 1view (pm the line 4-4. of Fig. 2, slightly on arge Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10 represents the ash pit of the coal range, and 11 the grate thereof. Our device which is disposed in the ash pit includes a burner and a supporting stand therefor. The burner consists of the three a parallel pipes 19;, 13 and 1 1 which are dis- To one end of the interend of the pipe 13 has an elbow 19 connected to a second elbow 20 by a short length of pipe 21. Connected to this elbow 20 is a valved nipple 22 to which is adapted to be connected a hose 23 attached at its opposite end to a gas jet or to a suitable connection 24; of a gas stove. Onthe upper side of each of the pipes 12, 13 and 14 are formed a plurality of threaded openings 25 in which are secured the vertically extending burner tubes 26. In the center of the upper side of each of the elbows 16 and the T-connection 15 is a similar burner tube 27. Extending across the bottom of the burner at each end and secured to the pipes 12 and 1 1 by means of screws are the bars 28. Secured at its opposite ends to the bars 28 is a rod 29 on which are pivotally mounted the supporting legs 30, these logs being connected near their outer ends by a connecting brace strip 31. These legs support the lighter in horizontal position, and can be folded up under the device when the lighter is not in use. The outwardly projecting ends of the members 28 are adapted to be enga ed with any irregularities in the side wall of the ash pit of the stove to support the device at that side.
What is claimed is:
A fire starter comprising a burner including a plurality of horizontally disposed and parallel pipes, elbow and a T-fitting connecting the pipes at one end, the other ends of certain of the pipes having closing caps, each of the pipes having burner tubes carried on its upper side, a valved nipple connecting with one end of one of the pipes, means carried by the nipple for connection with a gas jet or other source of gas supply, and a foldable stand secured to the burner for supporting the same in a horizontal position.
In testimony whereof, we affix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
ARTHUR BINETTE. JOHN PETRO.
Witnesses ANDREW Pnovosr, ROM. GAProNn.
