Description

G. W. DILLER. Fastening for Wagon-End Gates.
N0.-111,915.' Patented J an. 21, 1871.
timid $15M fitted dffim GEORGE W. DILLERQOF ODELL, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND GEORGE B. WOODBURY, OF SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 111,915, dated February 21, 1871.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the me.
To all whom it may canoe mt:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. DILLER, of Odell, in the county of Livingston and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fastening End-Boards in Wagon-Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereofiwhich will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in mode of fastening end-boards in the boxes of wagons, and consists in a hinged cleat and staple and hook, connected with the side of the box, arranged and operating as hereinafter more fully de scribed.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a perspective view of an end-board fastened according to my invention.
Figure 2 is a top view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the end-board or gate to the wagon-box. B and G arethe sides, and D is the bottom of the box.
E is a rod extending through the sides to prevent spreading and hold the end-board down.
F and G are inside cleats, and His an outside cleat, all of which cleats are fastened to the sideboards.
I is a cleatwhich is hinged to the side-board B, as
side B when the cleat is turned round upon its hinge against the end-board, as seen in fig. 2.
L is a hook on the outside of the side-board B, which books into the eye or staple K on the outside, and thereby holds the cleats firmly to the side-board, as seen in fig. 2. This efl'ectuallyholds the cleat in place and completes the fastening. 7
By removing the hook the cleat is readily turned back, which allows the end-board to be removed.
This is asimple and most effectual mode of fastening end-boards to wagon-boxes, and its advantages must be apparent to all.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters Patent- I In combination with the end-board of a wagon-box,
the hinged cleat I, staple or eye.K, and hook L, ar-- ranged to operate substantially as and for the purposes hercin shown and described.
GEORGE W. DILLER.
