To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM'ALcoRN, of Richland, in the county of Keokuk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in End-Gates for Wagons 5 and I dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use 1 the same, reference being ha'dto the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this s ecification. figures This invention relates to an improved endgate and scoop-board for wagons; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction and arrangement of the same, which will I be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings, A refers to the wagon-box. The end-gate Bis hinged to the box by straps O, which permit it to beopened freely, as represented in Fig. 1, and at the same time form braces or supports of great strength.

To the sides of the end-gate are hinged or pivoted segmental braces D D, sliding in boxes .4 E upon the sides of the wagon-box, and provided with'notches F, to engage with pawls G,

my own I have hereto affix pivoted in the upper sides of said boxes, and operated by springs H, the object of which is to retain the end-gate in any position in which it may be placed when closed, or nearly so.

The lower ends of the straps or braces D are bent outward to form catches 1, which abut against cross-pieces J in the boxes E when the end-gate is open, thus securing and support-5 ing it in such position.

To the lower hinged end of the end-gate are secured lugs or studs K K, adapted to rest against-the bottom of the wagon-box when the end-gate is open, thus givingit greatly-increased strength and supporting capacity.
