Be it known that 1, Lonis B. PENDLETON, a citizen of the United States, residing at city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful mprovement in Check-Books, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specifi- Figure 1 is a plan view of a check book of my improved construction, the same being open to show the face of a check and its respective stub or record sheet and also showing one o the stubs or record sheets folded and turned over onto the inside of the front cover of the book. Fig. 2 is a face view of one of the stubs or record sheets, the same being detached from the book. Fig. 3 is an edge view of the stub or record sheet with dotted lines showing the manner in which the same is folded after being filled out. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken approximately on the line Lf/1 of lFig. 1, and showing a retaining device for the checks and record sheets.

My invention relates to a new and useful pocket check book, the principal object of to provide a comparamy invention being tively simple, inexpensive check book wherein the greater portion of the face o the check, or that ortion which is filled out, and the face of the record sheet or stub are arranged immediately adjacent to each other so that the user can quickly and conveniently fill out the stub or record sheet and the check without the inconvenience of turning over a stub or leaf of the book or without shifting the writing operation from one side of the book to the other.

A further object of my invention is to provide a recor sheet or stub with spaces or columns which, when filled out, and the record sheet is folded and turned over onto the inside cover of the book, will occupy positions in direct alinement with spaces which are adapted to receive data relating to deposits made by the user of the book, thus greatly simplifying the keeping of records relating to the users bank balance and the various issued checks. provide means whereby the free edges at the outer ends of the checks and record slips are temporarily held in convenient position on the back cover of the book until they are successively removed by the user.

With the above and other objects in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

My improved check bo0k,as shown, comprises a series of checks 10 of suitable size and shape, the same being bound in any suitable manner between covers 11 and 12 and the main body portions of said checks being readily detachable from the bound edgesl along perforated or weakened lines such as 13.

Bound into the book and overlying a portion of the face of each check is a series o record sheets or stubs, such as 14:, each stub being approximately equal in length to the length of the check, and approximately half the width thereof. Each record sheet is arranged so that it overlies the upper portion of the face of the adjacent check. The upper portion o the recor sheet is cut away so as to form an approximately rectangular opening 15 which exposes that portion of the adjacent check 10 on which the check number, and date spaces appear. mmediately below the lower edge of this opening 15 on the face of the record sheet is a date line or space 16, and immediately below this is a space or line 17, which is adapted to receive the name of the payee and in yfront of which is data such as In'Favor Of Appearing on the left hand portion of the record sheet and near the top thereof is a line or space 18 adapted to receive the check number, and immediately below this line or of lines 19 adapted to rerelating to the check or to hich the check is issued. Thus the user has all the necessary data relative to the amount of his bank account and by properly filling in the different data on the faces of the record sheets and checks, it is a comparatively easy matter to keep a complete record of all checks and the transactions for which the same were issued.

By providing a record sheet which overlies a portion of the face of the check, it is a comparatively easy matter for the user to properly fill out the record sheet at the same time the check is being made out and the user is not inconvenienced by having to shift the writing operations from one side of the book to the other or by having to turn or raise the record sheet during the writing of the necessary data thereon, and upon the check.

I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement of columns or the headings and notations on the record sheet and check as the same may be varied to suit dierent requirements.

I claim:

l. In a check book the combination with a series of superposed blank checks of a series of record sheets arranged between the checks so that each record sheet cverlies a portion of the face of the check, which record sheets are approximately equal in length to the length of the checks, and of a width less than the width of the check a portion of each record sheet being cut away so as to expose a portion of the reverse side of said record sheet when the same is folded upon a predetermined line and to expose a portion of the face of said record sheet when the same is folded over onto the front cover of the book, and the face of each record sheet being printed to form spaces in which may be written data corresponding to the data written upon the face of the corresponding check.

2. In a check book, a series of superposed checks, a corresponding series of record sheets arranged with one sheet overlying each check, said record sheets being approx'- imately equal in length to the length of the checks and half the Width thereof, each sheet overlying the upper half of the face of the check, the upper central portion of each record sheet being cut away so as to expose a portion of the corresponding check7 all of the sheets being printed to form spaces adapted to receive data corresponding to the data written on the checks, and each record sheet beine' transversely creased at a predetermined point so as to permit a portion of the sheet to be readily folded.

3. In a check book, the combination with a blank check, of a record sheet which is approximately equal in length to the length of the check and having a width less than the width of the check, which record sheet overlies the upper portion of the blank check, said record sheet being suitably printed to form spaces adapted to receive data corresponding to the data written on the check, a portion of the record sheet being cut away to expose a portion of the face of the corresponding check, and a portion of the rear side of the record sheet being printed to ferm spaces which are adapted to receive certain data, and which last mentionedspaces are in alinement with certain of the spaces on the face of the record sheet when a portion of the latter is folded on a predetermined transverse line.

4. In a check book, a record sheet adapted to overlie a portion of the face of a check, which record sheet is approximately equal in length to the length of the check and having a width less than the width of the check,

a portion of which record sheet is cut awayfw n to form an opening which exposes a portion of the face of the corresponding check, said record sheet being transversely creased at one end of the opening so as to be readily folded at a predetermined point and both sides of which record sheet are printed to form spaces adapted to receive data corresponding to the data written on the face of the corresponding check and certain of the spaces on the face of the record sheet'being positioned so that they will aline with certain spaces on the rear face of said sheet when the same is folded on the creased line.

5. In a check book, a blank check, a record sheet having a length approximately equal to the length of the check and having a width less than the width of the check, which record sheet overlies a portion of `said check and positioned so that the record sheet^-`\ n and the blank check can be filled out without disturbing the position of either, and said blank check and record sheet being provided with spaces located so that when said spaces are properly filled out, the name of the payee on the check will be immediately adjacent to the name of the payee on the record sheet, and the spaces containing the numerical notations on said record sheet will be above and adjacent to the numerical notations on the check.
