Specification of Letters Patent.
Application sied May 24,1913. serial No. 769,569.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH BLEEELD, al
citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphiaand State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in` With these and other objects in view, they invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a view in side elevation illustrating my improvements. Fig. 2 is a view in section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view in vertical longitudinal section on the line SH3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a view in section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
1 represents a cylindrical receptacle having a closed end 2 and in which a drawer 3 is mounted to slide. end 4 corresponding in shape to the closed end 2, so that when the drawer is in position in the receptacle, it will be alike at both ends except that a handle 5 is provided on the drawer to facilitate its movement. The drawer 3 is semi-circular in cross section as shown most clearly in Fig. 4, but the inner end 6 and outer end 4 are complete circles in cross section as is also a partition 7 which divides the drawer into two compartments.
The ends 4 and 6 and partition 7 iit the cylindrical bore of casing 1, but any turning movement of the drawer is prevented by a cross pin 8 which extends through the casing and over the edges of the drawer 3 as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4. This pin 8 also limits the outward movement of the drawer as it is engaged by the end 6 when the drawer is pulled outwardly.
Metal bands 9 are secured around casing 1 This drawer 3 has an and are provided on the upper edge of the casing with bearings 10 for the ends of a bail 11 on which a handlev 12 is mounted.
Links 13 are supported by the bands 9 below thecasing 1 and through these links, short sections of strap 14 are positioned and secured at their ends by rivets 15 to longer straps 16. These straps 16 at their ends are secured to horizontal bars17, and a single` strap 18 located midway between the straps 16 is secured by rivets 19 to the bars 17, and is adapted to be positioned around books 2O or other similar articles as clearly shown.
Strap 1S has a buckle 21, so that it may be adjusted to properly clamp 'the articles. The bars 17 may be of ber or some other relatively strong materiahand when positicned lat opposite sides of the articles to be clamped, will maintain the several straps in parallelism and afford a relatively wide gripping surface to bind the articles together. By the arrangement of short straps 14, and
-longer straps 16, the straps are permitted a certain amount of movement in the loops 13 without injuring the article clamped by the straps.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, butconsider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within thespirit and scope of the appended claims.v
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a cylindrical casing, a drawer mounted to slide in the casing, said drawer of general semi-cylindrical form, and a pin projected across the casing and in proximity to the upper edges of the drawer, whereby said pin prevents rotary movement of the drawer in the casing, substantially as described.
Qf. A device of the character described, comprising a cylindrical casing, a drawer mounted to slide in the casing, said drawer of general semi-cylindrical form, a pin projected across the casing and in proximity to the upper edges of the drawer, whereby said pin prevents rotary movement of the drawer in the casing, and circular partitions constituting a part of the drawer -fitting within Patented Nov. 24, 1914.
the cylindrical casing and between two of name to this specification in the presence of 1wi'hioh said pin is positioned7 whereby the two subscribing witnesses. s idinflV movement of the drawer in the Tv -m casing is limited by the engagement 0f one JOSEPH BLHFLD' 5 o said partitions with the pin, substantially Vitnesses:
as described. MARY E. DITTUS, ln testimony whereof I have signed my CHAS. E. POT'I'S.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, I). C.
