STICKY-FLY-PAPER IE'YQ,
Specification ci Letters Patent,
remmen um, la, ieee Application led September 12, 1913, l Serial rio. Yll
To all whom it may concern Be known that We, GUsTAvE WAGNER and MYRON H. HOPKINS, citizens of the United' States, residing at Grand Rapids, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sticky-Fly-Paper Devices, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to iniprovernentsy in sticky fly paper devices. v
The objecs of this invention are: Firsnto provide a. ribbon of sticky fly paper in roll form. in a compact and effectively sealed package, Second, to provide a roll of sticky lily paper ribbon incased in such Aa manner that the ribbon can be readily drawn out. Third, to provide a package of this char acter which is eliectively sealed with one edge of the ribbon properly protruding to facilitate its withdrawal from the case. Fourth, to provide an improved construction of pivot bearing in such a case.
' Further objects, and objects. relating to details and economies of construction* and operation will deiinitely appear from the deailed description to follow.
TWe accomplish the objects of'oui' invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and point,- ed out in the claims.
structure, which is a referred embodiment of our invention, is ullv illustrated in the accompanying drawing', forming a part oi this specification, in which:
Figure viS a detail elevation view of a 'package of sticky fly paper ribbon embodying the principles of our invention. Fig. H is a similar view of the same with the protruding flap oi che ribbon turned cach disclosing' the sealing means. Fig. IH is a. view of the sticky ily paper ribbon in use, the same being pulled out of the cylindrical box and suspendedupon the hook, as illustraled. ig. IV is an enlarged detail transverse sectional View on line 4-4 of Fig. l, Fig. V is e detail enlarged sectional View of part of the empty shell of the package shone `nu; details vor the pivot bearing for the roller. Fig. VI is a detail sectional viciv on line 6-6 ol Fig. IH, Lshowing the method of suspending the ssicky fly paper ribbon when in use.
In the drawing, the sectional views are taken looking in the directionv of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines, and similar numerals ci reference refer to similar parte throughout the several views.
. Considering the numbered parts'of Athe drawing, we provide a' cylindrical shell l, preierahlj,Y made of paper, as paste board,
with caps 2, 2 for its opposite ends, Which'- -body and cap cont-ain a longitudinal slot 5 for the roll. l2 which is pitted to ,conformI y thereto.A A. ribbon of paper 6 of a width substantially the length of the slot 5 in the side ,of the bon, coated with sticky material 7 7 on its opposite surfaces and having an uncoated projecting end 3 perforated ais Wound into roll upon Jche central. cylindrical block 12. The inner end 6 of the vribbon 6 is folded back upon itself so that, the cylindrical core l2 is held in a loop atf'the end of the ribbon. which the ribbon is drawn is considerably Wider than the thickness of the ribbon and itscoating, and into the space by the sido o-the uncoated end of the ribbon we insert a length of soi't string i3, such as a iieco of candle-wicking, with a protruding; cnil 13 folded bach upon itself at convenient, point tov be grasped to Withdraw the saine "rom the aperture and we seal the space with melted paraiiln or similar wax 14,' This retains che sticky contents Within the package and prevents any leakage ol ilie saine, B v this means We are able lzo produce a very satisfactoq7 and eilective clean package, from which the' sticky material does notI cxude,an l aiter Vthe package is opened, it is slofJ 5 through vonly necessary to gently pull the ribbon 6 arie-,eea
a very compact package and requires no special attention further than to store the same in a cool place until it is desired for use. ,There is, of course, only a limited sticky surface exposed by each of these r evices. This, however', is found'to be quite suicient when the device is Well placed to catch the small number of iies that manage to get into screened apartments.
We are aware, in this behalf, that sticky fly paper ribbon devices have been heretofore produced, but We are simply claiming improvements which result in economy or' manufacture in yan effective device for the purpose which is easy to manipulate and make use of, and which is a very neat package when completed ready for distribution.
We desire to claim the novel features broadly and also the specific devices as pointed out in the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention, what We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
' l. In a suitable Hy paper ribbon device,
the combination of a suitable cylindrical shell of paper with 'a longitudinal slot at one side intermediate the edges thereof; metal caps at the ends secured by seeming and having central bearings formed by in- 30 dentation of the metal; a cylindrical core block disposed Within the shell and con formed to be supported by said bearing; a ribbon of sticky iy paper Wound into a roll about said block With a protruding 35 outer end; and a plug of string sealed with paraffin Wax for the slot in proximity to the protruding end of said ribbon, as specied. In a suitable fly paper ribbon device,
the combination of a suitable cylindrical 40 shell of paper with a. longitudinal slot at one side intermediate the edges thereof; caps at the ends; a cylindrical core block disposed Within the shell; a ribbon of sticky iiy paper Wound into 'a roll about said block with a protruding outer end; and a plug a5 of string sea-led with paraiin WaX for the slot in roirimity to the protruding end'of said ribbon, as s eciied,
3. lin a suitab e -fly paper ribbon device, the combination of a suitable cylindrical shell of paper with a longitudinal slot at one side intermediate the edges thereof; caps at the ends; a cylindrical core block disposed Witliin the shell; a ribbon of sticky fly paper Wound into a roll about said block with a protruding outer end; and a ping sealed' With Wax :for the slot in proximity to th protruding end of said ribbon, as speci-l 4:. In a suitable iy paper ribbon device, 60
the combination of a suitable cylindrical shell of paper with a longitudinal slot at one side; metal caps at theends secured by seaming and having central bearings formed by indentation of the metal; a cylindrical core block disposed within the shell andl conformed to be supported by said fbearing; a ribbon of sticky fly paper Wound into a roll about said block with a protruding outer end; and a plug sealed With wax for the slot in proximity to the protruding end of said ribbon, as specified.
In witness whereof, we have hereunto set our hands and seals in the presence oftwo vwi tnesses.
