STOVEPIPE-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed November 8, 1913.
Patented Nov. 10, 1914. Serial No. 799,897.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAHN TAKAos, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahonlng and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoveplpe- Fasteners, of which the following is a speclfication.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in stove pipe fasteners.
An object of the invention is to provide a stove pipe fastener which will preventan accidental displacement of the stove pipe from the flue, should the stove be moved or jarred and will effectually retain the same in normal position.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter fully set forth and then claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing by like characters throughout, and wherein Figure l is a perspective view of a stove showing the means for fastening the stove pipe in the flue. Fig. 2 is a longltudlnal sectional view partly broken away showing the manner of fastening the stove pipe within the flue and the support for the inner end of the stove pipe.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the reference letter S represents a stove of usual construction and W the wall, into which the stove pipe is adapted to be received. The wall W is provided with the usual flue opening F.
A thimble member 10 is provided and comprises more specifically, and preferably as shown, a tubular pipe section provided adjacent its inner end with a circumferential inwardly-directed bead 11, the object of which will presently appear. Connected to the inner end of the thimble 10 are resilient fingers or spring-retaining members 12 preferably S-shaped, Which fingers engage the inner edge of the flue F, and prevent dis placement of said thimble 10.
The outer end of the thimble is provided with an annular flange 18 which lies against the wall W, to limit the inward movement of the thimble. The edge of the flange is bent outward as at a to overlap the outer edge of an outwardly-curved collar 6 to secure said outer edge of the collar, the inner edge of which is formed with an annular flange a secured within the outer end of the thimble. An eye-bolt 14 projects from the collar 6 to the tached a hook 15. l packing ring 13 is mounted on the thimble, between the flange l8 and the wall N to preserve the latter.
The stove pipe section entering the thimble which is mounted in the flue F, is designated 16 and comprises a pipe of usual construction, said pipe being limited in its eye of which is loosely atlnward movement by its inner end engaging I the bead 11.
The pipe has, preferably mounted on its upper side, a plate 17 secured thereto in any suitable manner, said plate having its outer end upwardly bent and turned at right angles to provide an ear 18 apertured as at 18 to receive the end of the hook 15. It is therefore evident that when the parts are assembled as shown and described, movement of the pipe 16 relative to the flue is practically impossible, as the inner end of the pipe 16 engages the head 11 and prevents inward movement while the hook 15 engages the ear l8 and prevents outward movement. In the usual form of construction, the pipe 16 has a tendency to sag, but this is obviated by placing the hook and ear on the upper side of the pipe which tends to hold the same in a horizontal position.
What I claim as new is Securing means for stove-pipes, comprising a thimble arranged within a flue-opening, said thimble being formed with an annular internal bead, a plurality of S-shaped resilient fingers secured to the inner end of the thimble and having their free inner ends in engagement with said flue, an flange at the outer end of said thimble having its outer edge bent outward, an outwardly curved collar at the outer end of the thimble and having its outer edge secured by the bent-outer edge of said annular flange, and its inner edge flanged and secured to the thimble,
annular an eye-bolt secured to saidcollar,
and a hook loosely secured to said eye-bolt, In testimony whereof I affix my signature 1n coniblnatlon with a stove-pipe section the in presence or two Witnesses.
inner end of which bears against said head, J AHN TAKAGS. and a plate secured to said pipe section and Witnesses:
formed with an upturned perforated ear en- DAVID STEINER,
gagecl by said hook. MAGDoLNo TAKAos.
