DANIEL 'W. GUILES, 0F TACOMA, WASHINGTON.
FLOOR-DRAIN.
Specification. of Letters Patent. Patented N 10, 1914, Application filed September 1, 1910. Serial No. 580,011.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL W. GUILES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tacoma, in the county of Pierce and State of Washington, have invented new and use-,
an absolute necessity that a fixture be caused a to waste into floor drains or traps because otherwise the water in the trap would evaporate and permit sewer gas to enter the house. r I 1 It is the object of this invention toprovide means whereby a fixturesuch as a laundry tub or the like may waste into the trap so as to keep it properly primed.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this applica tion, and in which:
Figure l is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a top plan View.
Referring more particularly to the drawing 1 represents the hopper of the trap which is covered by a foraminous top 2 removably mounted thereon as is usual. The lower end of the trap is bent into Y-shape as shown at 3 and the tail of the trap is provided with a threaded extension 4. upon which a T-coupling is threaded. The lateral internally threaded extension 6 of said coupling is adapted to be connected to a waste pipe and the vertical internally T-coupling is adapted to be connected to a vent pipe. It will therefore be seen that the coupling may be turned around so as to present the lateral extension for connection with a waste pipe in almost anydirection. The opposite side of the hopper from the tail is bulged upon its side as shown at 8 and'is provided with an internal boss 9 which is raised above the top of the hopper and is internally threaded to receive a waste pipe-from any fixture such as alaundry tub or the like. The boss is hollow or tubular throughout its length and opens directly into the hopper so that the waste from the tub or other fixture will drain directly thereinto and keep the trap properly primed. Boththe extension 7 and the internal boss 9 are projected above the top of the ho per 1 so that disconnection of the waste an vent pipes may be made Withprisinga funnel-shaped receptacle, a waste pipe communicating with the bottom of said receptacle, and extending laterally therefrom, said waste pipe being formed with a returned portion disposed substantially parallel with the axis ofsaid funnel-shaped receptacle, a T-couplingremovably engaging said returned portion of said waste pipe, said T-coupling having its main axis disposed in line with said returned portion, a
perforated cap snugly fittingv the open wide neck of said funnel-shaped receptacle, and
a pipe having the greater part of its cir- ,cumference disposed within the circumference of said funnelshaped member, said last named pipe having an arc of its circumference disposed in projecting relation with respect to the periphery of said funnelshaped member and having its lower portion deflected inwardly whereby to have its mouth disposed substantiallyin line with the stem of said T-coupling. v
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
