NECKTIE FORM AND HOLDER.
1,11e,ee2.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. HUM- PHREY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New Rochelle, in the county of Nestchester and the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie Forms and Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof.
The object of this invention is to provide a form upon which a four-in-hand necktie or scarf can be tied readily, with such shape as suits the wearer, and by which the necktie or scarf can be applied and detached readily and securely held in position.
The invention will be more fullyv explained hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing in which it is illustrated and in which- Figure 1 is a view in front elevation showing a portion of a four-in-hand necktie or scarf made up on the form, which is indicated in dotted lines, the scarf pin being shown partly in full lines and partly in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a view in rear elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view in side or edge elevation of the parts shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the button also being shown. Fig. 4 is a view in rear elevation of the form or holder. Fig. 5 is an edge or side view of the same. Fig. 6 is a view of the blank which is bent up to form the holder.
As shown in Fig. 6, the blank a which is bent up to make the form or holder has a generally pear-shaped bodyaflwith an extension a at one end and an extension a? at the other end, the latter having a finger a". In the upper or broadest part of the body is formed an arcuate slot a". At the lower portion of the body is formed a small slot a. At the extremity of the extension a is formed a small hole a". In the extension a is formed a double key-hole slot a with two circular enlargements a connected by a narrow throat a In making the form or holder the body a is slightly concaved on its major axis and the band a, which is formed by the slot or slit a is bent over toward the concave or rear side of the body a, the bending being effected near the ends of the band. The extension a beyond the double key-holeslot a is bent toward the body, nearly at right angles, so that the finger a may be passed Specification of Letters Patent.

through the slot a and bent down tohold the two parts of the form in proper relative position, so as to make a rigid form or holder. The bendingof the blank in the manner described makes a form with a front body at, having preferably a curved head and a lower extension a, and a generally transverse band a which is curved as may be desired, and a rear body a which has in it a double key-hole slot a On this form or holder the scarf I) is tied in the usual or desired shape. The form or holder does not confine the wearer to any exact shape for the tied scarf, but permits substantially such variation to be made as would be made in tying a scarf without a form or holder. When the scarf has been applied to the form or holder the scarf pin 0, having a head a and a shank 0 bent, as usual, near the head at substantially a right angle, is passed through the scarf and'through the hole or eye a from the front and is turned down in the usual fashion, its point being inserted into the body of the scarf. hen
the scarf pin has thus been'inserted it is impossible to withdraw it without moving the scarf and the holder away from the body of the wearer so as to permit the long shank of the pin to be turned at right angles to the general plane of the scarf and holder.
To apply the scarf and form to the button which is preferablyof the wing type, the form must be turned to a horizontal po sition so that the head of the button may be slipped through the slot a of the form. The form is then moved horizontally in one direction or the other until the neck of the button engages one enlargement a or the other, according to the height at which it is desired that the scarf shall be supported. Then the scarf and form or holder are turned to their normal vertical position, whereby the button is retained in the but ton-holes of the necli'band and the collar and the form or holder is also held from displacement or removal until it is again It will be obvious that the shape may spaced relationship with said head portion be varied considerably to suit different I to form therewith a slot through which the fashions and tastes Without departing from tie may be passed and a rear body secured the spirit of the invention. tosaid frame at its lower portion and form- 15 5 I claim as my invention: ing an integral part of said band.
As an article of manufacture,-a neck-tie This specification signed and witnessed form comprising a front frame concaved on this 2261 day of July, A. D. 1913. its major axis and having a head portion eX- GEORGE P. HUMPHREY. tending substantially transversely thereto, Signed in the presence of- 10 a band integral with the frame and eXtend- J. F.
