STATES PATENT orricE.
ANZEIEWITZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Patented Nov. 10, 1914.
To all 'whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER A. ANanmwrrz, a citizen of the United States, residing at NewYork, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Saliva-Ejectors, of which` the following is a specification.
'My invention relates to a new and im- 'proved saliva ejector for use by surgeons material, they of terial and having` a memb scribed in the Aaccompanying Iand dentists, principally by the latter. Heretofore these ejectors have been made with a ipe constructed either of metal or glass. hese are undesirable for the reason that the glass is apt to break and the metal is apt to be heavy. Being made of rigid fit the different congurations often times reuired bythe varying shaped mouths of di erent individuals.
My invention consists essentially of a pipe constructed .of rubber or similar maer on lthe inside thereof, preferably of material which can be bent or flexed `into any shape land the ipe will hold the shape into which it is ent.
`My invention is more articularly despecification and drawing in which: Figure 1 is a side view of a-n ejector embodying my invention.V Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the improved mouth piece. Fig.' 3 is a sectional view taken along the line ma: of Fig.- 2. Fig. Li is a detail sectional view of the lower end of thepump which enters the bulb. A
. The ejector consists essentially of a rubber tube a. i* Into this tube is a metal member b made preferably of pure copper wire, which is soft enough to be bent into any required position and yet retain its shape after being so'bent.` vThe lower' end of this copper wire is secured to a tubular coupling o having an can be.
aperture d through which the saliva drawn and flow into a receptacle. At the upper end of the pipe or tube is a mouth piece or ti e which is of course -smooth and round in iorm and having a neck f of less diameter than the mouth piece. This neck has an opening g into which' the wire memcourse cannot be bent to- Applioation med April 24, 1914. Serial No.I 834,056.
ber b sets'.V The neck f also has depressions k formed in it which constitute a sort of screw thread. The neckf is made of substantlally the same sizeas the inside of the tube a and the tube a is forced over the neck f and the thread like corrugations h serve to rip or hold the tube atightly on the nec f. On the under side of the mouth piece e is formed a series of openings or holes i. Attached to the lower end of the pipe a 1sK a bulb j of usual construction which is ressed to form a suction to draw offthe ,sa iva.
The operation of the device is as follows: The end ofthe pipe with the mouth piece e is placed into the mouth of the patient and the saliva entering the holes z" of the mouth piece e runs into the opening g of of the neck f and so on down the tube and into the opening d into a receptacle.
As shown in the drawin the suction is created at the mouth of the pdevice by means of a compressible pump, butan-y well known meansv may be employed for example the lower end of the device may coact with a fountain cuspidor and a suction thus created.
I claim: l
l. In asal'iva ejector the combination with a flexible tube, of a tubular coupling carried by the tube, and yielding means secured to the coupling `and co-acting with the mouth ofthe tube for holding the tube in a flexed position. A
2. In a saliva ejector the combination with a ieXible elastic tube, of a mouth piece mounted in the upper end of the tube, a tubular couplinginserted in the lower end of the tube, and a pliable wire member secured to the' coupling and co-acting with the mouth piecetohold the tube in a ieXed position.
In testimony whereof my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALEXANDER A. ANZELEWITZ.. Witnesses l CHRISTIAN I-I. ALMSTAEDT, I-IAzEL V. MoELRoY.
