BUCKLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 3, 1914.
Application filed November 11, 1913. Serial No. 800,378.
' To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. K0011, a citizen of the United States, residing in the county of Custer and State of Colorado, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Buckles, of which the follow ing is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention is an improvement in buckles and, while of general applicability, it is especially adapted for use on hame straps,
I-Iame strap buckles, being necessarily drawn very tight and being furthermore likely to become firmly set by the strains put upon them in use, are diflicult to detach and the object of my invention is the provision of means whereby the tongue will be positively and readily withdrawn from the strap without the necessity of pulling on the latter or manually releasing it. I
In the single sheet of drawings accompanying this application and forming a part hereof Figure l is a perspective View of a hame strap provided with a buckle embodying my invention, thebuckle being shown in clasped position and the free end of the strap being raised to more clearly show all the .parts; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the parts shown in Fig. 1, the buckle being detached.
Referring to the drawings, 3 indicates the strap to which my buckle has been attached by riveting or any suitable means.
I indicates the frame of the buckle which, in the preferred form shown in the drawings, is provided with a pair of elongated eyes 5 in which is mounted the rectangular member 6 which carries the tongue 7 The tongue 7 is preferably freely mounted on the member 6 though it may be non-revolubly mounted thereon if desired. On the side of the member 6 opposite to that carrying the tongue there is attached a hand-hold 8, in this instance shown as a short strap. These parts are so shaped and proportioned that the member 6 is free to slide Within the limits imposed by the ends of the eyes and the length of the tongue is greater than-the distance between the inner ends of the eyes 5 and the outer end 9 of the frame and less than the distance between the outer ends of the eyes and the end 9 of the frame.
Operation: When the device is to be buckled the member 6 is held at the inner ends of the eyes and the parts secured in the same manner as with an ordinary buckle, the tongue 7 the strap 3. The tension on the strap 3 will retain the tongue parallel with the frame and always in engagement with its outer end 9, and the greater thepull the more firmly will the bucklebe held in place. When it is desired to detach the parts a sharp, quick pull on the hand-hold 8 will readily withdraw the tongue from the hole in which it is in engagement and the strap will be released,
as shown in Fig. 2.
entering one of the holes 10 in Having. thus described my invention, what
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: t
' 1. In a. device of the class described, a frame having a pair of elongated eyes projecting therefrom at right angles to the plane of said frame, a tongue carrying member mounted to have a limited sliding movement in said eyes, a tongue upon said member adapted to engage that side of the frame from which said eyes project, and a hand- 1loiold attached to said tongue carrying mem- 2. In a device of the class described, a frame having a pair of eyes projecting therefrom at right angles to the plane of said frame, a tonguev carrying member mounted to have a limited sliding movement in said eyes, a tongue upon saidmeming movement in said eyes, a tongue m0unt-' fixed my signature in the presence of two ed on the same slde of sand tongue carrylng wltnesses. member and adapted to engage that smile of the frame from which said eyes project, and L M KOCH' 5 a hand-hold attached to the opposite side of Witnesses said tongue carrying member. WVILLIAM B. VATES,
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto afv A. H, ARTHUR.
