THE NORRIS PETERS 00.. PHOTD-LITHIL, WAHlNu IUN. D c.
MARY BUSCH, OF McARTI-IUR, NORTH DAKOTA.
PIN-GUARD AND ORNAMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 27, 1914.
Application filed May 2, 1913. Serial No. 765,114.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARY Boson, a citizen of the United States, residing at Me- Arthur, in the county of Pembina and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pin-Guards and Ornaments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combined ornaments and pin guards, and one object of the invention is the provision of an article which will provide an ornament and at the same time produce a guard or protector for the point of the pin used in securing the hat.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a device which will provide an ornament for the hat and which will also protect the point of the pair of pins used in securing the hat the device being highly ornamental and useful and being capable of production at the right price.
Allen-a Another object of my invention is the provision of an article which may be used upon the hat and for protecting the securing pins, and which may also be used as a-combined brooch and necklace, as circumstances require. v
With these objects in view my invention consists of an article of the character and for the purpose stated embodying novel features of construction and arrangement of parts substantially as disclosed herein.
In order that the construction in detail and the manner of using my article may be fully understood and its points of merit be appreciated I have illustrated in the accomv panying drawings an article constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a hat with my device in position thereon, to illustrate its use in this conection and as a a hat ornament and pin guard. Fig. 2 represents a plan view of the complete article or device detached, and Fig. represents a sectional View of one of the pin guard members and ornaments.
In the drawings: the letter A, designates the hat in connection with which my device may be used, said device consisting of the ornament B, in the form of a brooch, provided with an attaching pin C, and with a pendant or ring D, from which leads the pair of chains E, which are also connected with the rings or eyes F, upon the hollow buttons or ornamental members G, in which hollow members are placed the rubber fillings H, having the projections J, extending from said members and adaptedto be engaged by the pointed ends K, of the pair of hat securing pins L.
From this construction it will be seen that my device provides both an ornament as well as a guard or protector for the pin, or if de sired the article may be used as a combined brooch and necklace with the chains passing around the neck and secured by means of the hooks M, on the pair of ornament members, said members of course being made of any size or shape and ornamented in any desired manner.
It willbe apparent that I provide a device which whilehighly ornamental and attractive in appearance is also very useful and may be produced at the right price according to the design of the article and the material used. I
I claim: A device of the character described, consisting of a brooch having securing means adapted to be fastened to a hat, a pair of chains secured to said brooch, a part secured to the end of each chain and adapted to act as a pin. point protector, an interlocking connection secured to said parts, whereby said parts may be connected and the device as a whole be used as an ornament.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
G. G. THOMPSON, F. A.. WARDWELL.
