Description

S. GOETZ.` BEDSTEAD FASTENING.
Patented Feb. 7, 1871.

anna eine SEBASTIAN GOETZ, OF REEDS MILLS, OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 111,528, dated February 7, :1871; antedated January 25, 1,871.
IMPROVEMENT lN BEDSTEAD-FASTENINGS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
'1, SEBASTIAN Gomez, of Reeds Mills, .in the county of Vinton and State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in Bedstead-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
The lst part of my invention relates -to the construction of the frame or female part of the fastener,
i'rhich is set in the posts ofthe bed; and
The second part'relates to the construction of the vmale part of the fastener attached to the bed-rails, as
will be hereinafter more fully described.
Description of the Accompanying Drawing. Figure 1 is a side view of the fastener; Figure 2, a cross-section of fig. 1; and
Figure 3, a plan or inside view of the female part of the fastener.
General Description.
A is the female part of the fastener, which is an open box of metal, the sides a and end b flaring ontward, and also concave on'their ontsides. It is pro: vided with holes c c on the frontV -side, for the recep- 'tion of the T-shaped heads on the male part of the fastener, and with inclined projections (l d d d on the inside, so that when the' heads of the male fasteners are pressed down after entering the holes c c they will draw the parts firmly together.
A mortise is cnt in the post to correspond with the shape of the outside of the box or frame A for the same to iit in.
The box or frame is then pnt in at the upper end v of the mort-se and pressed down, and, when completely in the same,.the front side of the box or frame v is nsh with the outside ofthe bed-post.
These frames or boxes being made circular, and alsoeoncave on tbc outside, and the mortises in the post made to correspond with the same, there is no possible chance for them to split the posts, or being pulled out by any horizontal or downward pressure, and the same can only be taken out of the mort-lees at the npperend.
B is the male part of the fastener, made semicircular in form, aslclearly shown in the'drawing, and provided withthe pins ff, which are cast on the same, as also the T-shaped heads, for entering the holes c c in the bor or frame A.
lhe pins ff are for fastening the same to the bedrails, which is done in the following manner:
The bed-rails have mortises eut in them to correspond with the shape of the semicircular rings B B,
and-made Ajust the depth of the width of the rings;A
and, to make the same ush with the outside of the vrails, the pins are driven into the rails, which makes a very secure fastening for the rings, and avoids the necessity of having nails rscrews to fasten the s ame to the rails, as is also the ease with the boxes or frames A.
I am aware of the patents of N. Zins, dated November 30,. 1869, and that of John Lemman, dated October 2, 1866, and to the devices described by them Imake no claim, but only to the difference ot' construction, as shown and describedA by me. l
Having thus fully described my invention,
What 1 claim', and desire to secure by Letters latent, is
'1. 'lhe box or-frame A, provided with the curved or concave sides a d and end l, holes c c, and inclined projections d d d d, when constructed as described and for the purpose specied.
2. lhe semicirenlar ring B, provided with the pins f, as and for the purpose herein described.'
3. The combination of the box or frame A with the semicircular ring B,l when both are constructed as herein described, for the purpose specilied.
` SEBASTIAN GOETZ. Witnesses:
DANL. S. DANA, B. W. KELCH.
