Design No. 4,913, dated May 16, 1871.
DES IGN FOR A BEDSTEAD-FASTENING.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
[a all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NEHEMIAH 0. WHITCOMB, of Oak Hill, in the county of Greene and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for a. Bedstead-Fastening; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
The drawing represents a perspective view of my new design for a bedstead-fastening.
This invention relates to a new form of device whereby the side rails of bedsteads are secured to the posts at the head and foot-pieces of the same.
The invention consists in a new form of flange of the filstening-socket, said flange being provided with an undulating edge whereby a series of rounded ears for the reception of screws is formed.
A in the drawing represents the socket-piece of the fastening.
It has a. brace or flange, a, by which it is secured to the side rail B of the bedstead.
From the flange projects at right angles the plate I), which has a dovetail tapering groove at its face.
0 is the tongue, fastened to the bed-post. It is of tapering form, and has beveled edges to lit the groove of the plate I).
The edge of the flange a is wavy, as shown, and forms thereby a series of cars through which the fastening-screws 0 care fitted.
I claim as my invention- The flange a, having the series of cars on its edge, combined with the plate b, projecting therefrom at right angles, and having the tapered dovetail groove upon its face, to form a new design in bedstead-lastenings.
