UNIT STATES EATNT ()FIG ALEXANDER MILLER, OF ALBEMARLE, NORTH CAROLINA.
DUPLEX ENVELOIE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER MILLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Albemarle, in the county of Stanly and State of North Carolina, have made an Improvement in Duplex Envelops, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in the small duplex or twin envelops designed particularly for use in churches to receive offerings for different purposes.
The feature of novelty is the construction of the middle or connecting portion of the twin envelops.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the twin envelops with the closing flaps extended 'or unclosed- Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the twinenvelop blank having its flaps gummed.
In Figs. 1 and 2, the numeral 1 indicates the bodies of the two envelops which are connected at their inner ends, as indicated at 1 each being provided with top, gummed, sealing flaps 2, which, in Fig. 1, are shown extended or open.
The lower halfof the blank, as shown in Fig. 3, has folding end flaps 3 which are gummed on the outer side and thus adapted, when folded inward, to be sealed, as shown in Fig. 2.
A narrow open slot 4 extends, as shown in Fig. 1, between the narrow end connections 1 of the two envelops 11, and this is pro- Specification of Letters Patent.

duced by cutting out the blank on the lines 5, indicated in Fig. 3. By this means narrow-flaps 6 are formed which are adapted to fold in opposite directions, and, being gummed as shown in Fig. 3, they may be sealed on the outer sides of the respective ilpceptacles or envelops 11 as shown in Thus, by the construction described, the two envelops 1 and 1 may be instantly and very easily separated or torn apart, when it is desired to collect and distribute offerings deposited therein; and, by the folding of the flaps 6 over the inner edges of the envelops, the capacity of the envelops is enlarged to a greater degree than would be practicable if the flaps were dispensed with and the opposite gummed edges sealed together.
I claim The improved duplex envelop comprising two receptacles arranged end to end and connected by narrow portions, at their upper and lower edges, the intervening central portion being provided with a transverse open slot and with flaps formed in cutting said slot, the flaps being gummed and folded in opposite directions and lapped upon the adjacent edges of the envelop bodies, as described.
