SI-IAVING-CUP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct.6, 1914.
Application filed October 12, 1911. Serial No. 654,374.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DOMENICK 811110, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shav- 1ng-Cups; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to shaving cups and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a shaving cup designed for containing a lather brush, and in order that the shaving cup may not be of excessive length, I provide a hinged brush and attach a hook to the under side of the cover of the cup for suspending. the brush in the cup, and I also provide means for sealing the cover to the cup.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter more particularly described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein? Figure 1 is a side elevation of a cup constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a central, vertical section thereof; Fig. 3 is a central, vertical section with the top removed and the seal broken; and Fig. 4 is thcsealing strap The present invention comprises a cup having a depression formed about the upper edges of the wall thereof, adapted to receive the lid, said lid being provided with an oscillatory projection adapted to be received in said recess. A paper or other suit able material sealing ring provided with a glutinous substance is adapted to be sealed over the joint between the top and the body of the cup, said sealing ring being provided with a thread or other flexible member adapted to be received in the space left between the projection of the lid and the base of the recess formed in the body of the cup. Thus, by pulling the string which rests flush with the surface of the cup and lid, the lid may be released from the body of the cup, permitting access to be had thereto. A foldable brush is adapted to cooperate with this cup and be retained therein when the same is sealed, as and for the purposes hereinafter more fully described.
Reference being had more particularly to the drawings 10 indicates the body of a cup constructed in accordance with the present lnvention, sa d cup being formed of glass or any other suitable material having the depression 11 formed about the outer edge of the exterior of the wall thereof. A lid of brass or other suitable material 12 cooperates with the body of the cup through the instrumentality of the dependent flange 13, said flange being provided with the projection 14 on the outer surface thereof, which is adapted to be received in the depressions 11 of the body of the cup, said projections being shorter in length than the depth of the depression, thereby forming a space between the terminals of said projection 14 and the base of the depression 11; the purpose of which will hereinafter be more fully described.
A sealing ring 15 is adapted to encircle the joint between the flange 13 and the body of the cup 10, said sealing ring being constructed of paper or any other suitable material provided with an inner glutinous surface which secures a thread or other flexible member 16 thereto, said thread or flexible member being adapted to be retained within the space formed between the projection 14 and the base of the depression 11, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2, thereby permitting the body of the sealing ring 15 to rest flush against the surface of the flange 13 and the body of the cup 10. v The terminal of the string or flexible member 16 projects beyond the terminal of the sealing strip 15, thus permitting the sealing strip to be removed when desired.
A foldable brush indicated generally as B is adapted to be retained within the body of the cup in a folded position when the same is sealed, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. This brush comprises a body portion 17 which is provided with the projection 18, said projection adapted to be received into the handle 19, which is pivoted to said body portion, and a hook or catch 20 is carried by the handle 19, adapted to engage the projection 21 of the body pm:-
tion 17 for the purpose of securing the hancover having on its underside near its pedle to said body portion, as illustrated in riphery a suspending hook. 10 Fig. 3. In testimony'whereof I affix my slgnature Having thus fully described my lnvention, in presence of two Witnesses.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by U. S. Letters Patent, is:
A sanitary shaving cup provided with a cover having a plain fiat outer surface, said DOMENICK STIRO. Vitnesses MARY MUNAo, SALVATORE SOANNELLO.
