ll represents the bearing-strip for the upper sash.
4 It islaid. flat upon the nimh C, and shouldered at d, to receive the short strip E, extending downward just far enough to permit the upper sash to be drawn ont below it.
When the upper sash is raised, the strip E forms i theinner wall of the groove in whioh it slides. It also forma the upper half of the outer wall of the groove f, in which the lower sash H siides, while the lower half of the same wall is 'formed by ,the inner edge of the bearing-strip B. -The lower sash bears ininiediatehF on the jamb.
@n one side of the window the innerl wall of its groove is formed by the stationary strip K, extending somewhat less than half `the length oi the windowfranie. It is made'sulieieutly short to permit the.
sashes to be taken ont above it when the strip o is removed.
The strip :7 is secured in place by a inortise, el., in the top of the window-frame, and, by a inortise and tenen-joint, o, connecting it with the upper end of the,
strip L.
1t will be observed that the upper or outer sash F is made narrower than the lower sash H.
Vvhat I claim as myiuvention, and desire to sceure by Letters Patent, is
l. The window-frame'herein described, having the stationary strips A A and K running the entirelength of the window, bearing-strips B, shouldered at 7,short strips E and L, and the removable strip s', when strncted in the manner and for the purposes specified.
