PAPER-TOWEL CONTAINER.
To all ywhom it may concern:
Be it known that wc, Gs'rAv Arenen and SoLoMoN Lazan, citizens ofthe Unit-ed States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have jointly invented a new and useful Improve-4 ment in Paper-Towel Containers, 'of which*V end or edge of the foremost towel is extended through a slot in the bottom of the container and the extraction of the lowermost towel will cause the edge of the next towel to be projected through the same slot, and the object of our invention is to provide improved means for reducing the friction occasioned by the withdrawal of the interleaved paper towels. We accomplish this feature by means of the device illustrated in the drawings forming a part of the present specification, wherein like characters of reference designate similar parts throughout the said specifica-tion and drawings, and in which Figure l is a sectional View of a container, disclosing the manner in which the pile of towels yis supported upon rollers pivotally secured to a frame within the container. Fig. 2 is, a sectional view taken on line X-X of Fig. 1 lookingV in the direction indicated by the arrow, the paper towels having been removed. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line Y Y of Fig. l, the towels having been removed.
`We are aware that heretofore paper towel containers have been used, wherein the container is provided with a central slot having rollers on each side thereof, for the purpose of reducing the friction occasioned by the weight of the towels within the container. But in such containers, that portion of the towels' beyond the slot and the rollers, had to be withdrawn against the pressure due to the said weight of the towels resting thereon. In the present invention we propose to remove the friction occasioned by the weight of the towels beyond the slot and the rollers, by practically moving the slotv and rollers withithe paper towel as it is being withdrawn.
We accomplish this in the following Inanner: The numeral 1v is used to designate a suitable box or container substantially rectangular in form having a suitable hinged Specicationof Letters Patent. application mea April a, 1914. semaine-830,318.
' Patented sept. 15, 1914.
cover 2. The container l isprovided with the, bottom str1ps'3' with an open space between; parallel vrollers 4 and 5' are rotatably .secured to a reciprocating frame 9 which .is
slidably'mounted within transverse grooves x10-in each end of the container l and near the bottom thereof. Asthe extended end of the towel 8 is pulled, it engages the roller 5 nearest the crease within the said towel and causes the said roller to travel in the direction from which the towel is being withdrawn and `practically unrolls the towel from beneath'the pile, the other roller 4t meanwhile traveling in thesame direct-ion, and as it is free to rotate there is practicallj)r no resistance to its movement'occasioned by the weight of the towels thereon. Should both rollers 4 and 5 be moved to one side to such an extent that one side of the pilc is left unsupported by the rollers, which are parallel to the bottom strip 3, that side of the pile will rest on the corresponding strip 3 in the bottom of the container l and .be
supported thereby until the return of the said rollers l and 5 to a normal position beneath the center of the pile.
- It is obvious from the foregoing that we have provided improved means for reducing the friction attendant upon the removal of a towel from the container and that we have provided means whereby the towel is practically unrolled instead of pulled from beneath the pile. lt is also evident that the slot being between the rollers follows a towel when thesame is being removed.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A paper towel container comprising a rectangular box having bottom strips and a space between the said strips; a reciprocating frame slidably mounted within the container; and rollers rotatably secured to the said frame and adapted to support paper towels within4 the container and to move with the towel being withdrawn from'the said container.
2. A paper towel container comprising a rectangularl box having longitudinal bottom strips and a space between the said strips andV transverse grooves within each end of the container; a reciprocating frame slidably mounted within the grooves; and rollers rotatably secured to the reciprocating frame and adapted' to support paper towels within the container and to move with the towel being withdrawn from the said container. l f
3. A paper towel container comprising a rectangular box having bottom strips and a space between the said strips and transverse grooves within each end of the container and Ynear the-bottom thereof; a reciprocating .frame slidably mounted within the grooves and transversely to the bottom strips; and
parallel rollers rotatably secured to the reciprocating frame and parallel with the bottom strips and adapted to support paper towels within the container and .to move 15 In witness whereof we have hereuntotset our signatures '1n the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
