Description

M. STEINBERG.
GARMENT CLASP. urmonxon FILED mm: 5, 1911.
Patented Sept. 8,1914,
IN VENTOR WITNESSES:
ATTORNEY THE NORRIS PETERS 6a.. PHOYOVLIYHOW WASHINGTON. Il -C1 UNITED STATES series.
MORRIS STEINBERG, 0-3? DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
GARMENT-CLASP.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MORRIS STEINBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Garment- Clasps, of which the following is a specification, eference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in garment clasps.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, cheap and effective clasp in which the locking lever forms a cap or cover, cov ering the clamping portion of the clasp and that portion of the article being clasped to allow the lever to swing past the center.
in the drawing forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved fastener. Fig. 2 is a central vertical cross sectional view. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation, and Fig. is an enlarged broken perspective of the semispherical shaped button.
Referring now to the drawings, 1 repre sents the front wall and 2 the back wall of the fastener or clasp, which is preferably formed of suitable spring metal folded upon itself within the suspending ring 3, in which latter the supporting strap, whatever it may be, is designed to fasten.
Lugs i and 5 are formed or cut out of the back wall 2- and project through suitable openings 6 and 7 in the wall 1 and upon their extreme outer ends is pivotally carri ed the lever S, the innermost end of which is shaped in the form of an eccentric 9 and pivoted upon the pin 10.
The free end of the lever 8 is bulged outwardly forming the cup-shaped portion or cap 11 which acts as a protection and cover to the gripping members of the clasp when closed.
Within the lower end of the wall 2 is formed the convened shaped projection or button 12, it being formed of the metal of the back and integral therewith, this button 12 being preferably formed with the superimposed wart-like projections or corrugations 13 to better fit it as a holdfast means for gripping the cloth to which it is applied. These smaller projections 13 will be Specification of Iietters Patent.

formed upon the outer surface of the semispherical button by the same stamping operation that forms the button. Within the lower end of the front wall 1 is formed the circular opening 14, the said front wall havan outwardly projecting rim 1% which surrounds the button 12 when the clasp is closed and thereby firmly grips the cloth upon the buttcn, the walls of the clasp being brought together by the action of the cam 9 of the lever S and when closed the cap 11 of the hasp 8 entirely covers the opening 14 making a smooth and neat protection for the gripping jaws of the clasp.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
garment clasp comprising two spring members permanently associated, one
an inw rdly conveXed portion carried by the other member and of a size to extend through the openingin the first member, a lever pivoted to the member carrying the convened portion and having a cam face adapted to engage the other member and fore the two members together and the lower free end of said lever having a cup shaped portion adapted to receive the convexed portion of the member and that portion of the garment thereon.
2. A garment clasp comprising two spring members permanently associated, one of said members having a circular opening surrounded by an outwardly extending flange,
the other member and adapted to extend through the opening beyond the flange, a lever pivoted to the member carrying the convened portion and having a cam face adapted to engage the other member and force the two members together and the lower free end of the said lever having a cup-shaped portion adapted to receive the flange and convened portion of the member and that portion of the garment thereon.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afliX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
