JULIUS BRAUN, OF 'LU'TTRING-HAUSEN, GERMANY.
UMBRELLA-ENVELOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 1, 1914.
Application filed September 15, 1913. Serial No. 789,920.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JULIUS BRAUN, manufacturer, of Schulstrasse 11, Liittringhausen, Rhenish Prussia, Germany, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Umbrella- Envelops, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to envelops for umbrellas and it has for its object an envelop which consists ofa knitted fabric preferably of two such knitted hose or mantles one of them being incorporated into the other provided with closing means and a flexible ferrule forclosely joining the umbrella when applied thereupon.
My invention is fully shown on the accompanying drawing on which Figure 1 illustrates the new envelop in a vertical elevation. Fig. 2 a cross section along line AA of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 a similar section showing the envelop closed. Fig. 4 is an elevation of the envelop closed.
According to my invention the envelop for umbrellas and the like consistsof two hose a, a which are knitted in order to be elastic and inserted one into the other as shown especially in Figs. 2 and 3 in such a manner that the rough faces performed by the loops or knots a are inside and opposite each other and the smooth faces are outside and inside the complete envelop. Thus the same has a good outer appearance and may be easily drawn on the umbrella and removed therefrom. As seen from Fig. 1 the envelop has a conical shape to meet the ordinary form of the umbrellas, it may however also be cylindrical, it is provided at its bottom with a ferrule b of preferable flexible material as for instance india rubber, leather or the like and this and the elasticity of the slitted as usual, it is formed to a fold (Z and provided with the male or female member 0 of a snap button, the coacting member f being fastened in a known manner with the envelop as shown and for closing the envelop the fold is bent until both members 0, f are in contact and may be pressed together. In order to form but a small fold the upper portion of the envelop is made hollow round about or provided with a circular groove as shown at 9 so that material which can be folded is removed.
If desired the envelop may be made of only one hose made of elastic fabric.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent i An umbrella case comprising a tubular member of elastic material having a contracted portion adjacent one end thereof, a snap button 011 the tubular member, one portion of the snap button extending through both walls of the tubular member, the other portion of the snap button being secured to one of the walls of the tubular member, so that when the first mentioned portion is positioned on the second mentioned portion, a fold is formed in the tubular member whereby the case is brought into close engagement with an umbrella housed by the casing, and a ferrule of elastic material on the opposite end of the tubular member.
