PIPE-VISIE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led May 4, 1914.
Patented Aug. 5, 1914. s611111 No. 836,130.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, DAVID "W. tenen, a citizen ost the United States, residing at tlleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of hio, have invented certain new and useful linprcweinents in Pipe-Vises, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pipe vises, and has for its object to provide an improved pipe vise for cutting or threading pipes or the like, and which can be conveniently attached to a plumbers wagon, bench or the like.
The device consists of a base having two pivoted jaws mounted thereon, one jaw swinging to the right and the other to the left, and one jaw can be used for holding pipe while cutting, and the other for releasingdiesl or similar work.
The device is adjustable for work o1" various sizes, by ineans of a sliding' inlcruin block carrying one of the jaws.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is an end elevation of the tool. Fig. 2 .is al side view thereof. Fig. 3 is an end View showing the tool adjusted for larger work.
Referring specifically to the drawings, G indicates a bench or support to which a base plate 7 is bolted. This plate has Xed ful.- cruin ears or uprights S, between, which is pivoted, by a screw 9, an arcuate jaw 10 having teeth 11, and at the outer end ot' the jaw is a handle 12 by which it may be 1nanipulated andwhich also serves as a weight to hold the jaw to the work. Opposite the uprights 8 are a pair of ears or uprights 13 projecting from a slide 1li which carries a bolt 15, the square head et' which travels in a "lV-slot 16 in the base plate 7. This slide carries a jaw 17 arranged to swing opposite the jaw 10, and l'iaviug oppositely presented teeth, and a handle 18 for the purposes above described. The ears or uprights 8 and 13 are beveled as `indicated at 19 to i'orin a V- notch or seat for the pipe or other work indicated at 20.
ln the use of the device, the pipe or rod is laid across the seat and one or both of the jaws are pressed to contact therewith, the teeth engaging the work to prevent the saine 'from turning while it is being' threaded or otherwise operated on. The bolt 15 perinits the adjustable jaw to be fastened at the place desired and enables the tool to be used on work of diii'erent sizes.
That l claiin as new is 1. A. vise comprising ay base provided with upright seat nienibers one of which is adjustable, and swinging jaws pivoted to the ineinbers and adapted to grip work thereon.
Q. f1 vise comprising a base having a rigid upright seat i'neinber 8, a curved jaw pivoted thereto, an adjustable seat nlelnber 13 mounted on the base, means to hold said inenlber at adjustment, and a curved jaw pivoted to said adjustable nieinber.
ln testimony whereof l do atlix my signa turc in presence of two witnesses.
