To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Euro Manson, a citihave invented certain new and usefulIm- PTOVQITlQIItSqiH Gombmatmn-Saws; and I and exact description of the invention, such which it appertains to. make and use the same.
This inventionrelates to improvements in combination saws.
One object of the invention is to provide a saw having a series of bits provided with dili'erent sires and styles of teeth and adapt blade of the saw thereby converting the same into a fine or coarse, rip or cross cut saw.
Another object is to provide a sawof this character which will be simple, strong. durable and inexpensive in construction, efficient and reliable in. operation and which may be quickly and easily converted from one style of saw to another. i
With these and. other objectsin view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described andclaimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is aside view of my improved saw; Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross sectional view of the same; Fig. 3 is an enlarged side view partly in section of the outer end of the saw blade and one of the bits attached thereto showing more clearly the manner oi. fastening the outer end of the bit to the saw blade; Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail vertical section of the rear end of the saw blade taken on the line 4L- l of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view of the rear end of the blade taken on the line 55 of Fig. 1; Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of one of the saw bits removed from the blade; Fig. 7 i is a detail perspective view of the bit fastening member for the rear end of the bit; Figs.- 8 and 9 are detail side views ofxparts of other styles of bits which may be employed in connection with my improved saw.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes my improved saw which comprises a blade 2 of any suitable size and width to the inner end of which is secured a handle 3 by screws 4 or similarfastening devices. In the lower edge of the blade 2 is formed a longitudinal groove or channel :3 and in the outer end thereof and intersecting the groove 5 is a transverselocking pin 6.
Adapted to be engaged with the groove or channel 5 in the lower edge of the blade 2 are saw bits 7 of which any desired number may be provided having different sizes or styles of teeth. The bits 7v are preferably in the form of narrow bars on the outer edges of which are formed the saw teeth tures 12 formed in the opposite sidesof the grooved lower edge of the blade. With the apertures 11 and 12 is adapted to be engaged a stud 1-3 formed on and projecting laterally from the lower arm14 of a bit fastening clasp 15 which. has a U-shaped body. 16 adapted to fit in recesses 17 formed in the opposite sides of therear end of the blade and to grip theedge of this end of theblade as shown in Fig. 5. Thenumeral 18 designates the upper arm having at its upper end an inwardly projecting hook whose hill 20 is adapted to en gage a locking aperture 21 formed in the saw blade whereby this end of the arm 18 and the entire clasp are held in place.
The clasp 15 is formed of spring metal and the arms 14 and 18 diverge from the body and are adapted to be sprung into a engagement with recesses 22 and 23 which iareprovided to receive said arms whereby whenthe clasp is in position it will lie flush withthe adjacent surfaces of the blade while jthe stud and hook will engage their respecltive apertures for holding the clasp in place and for fastening theinner end of the bit to the lower edge of the blade. In applying the clasp, thearm 14 is engaged with the recess 22 and the stud 12 thereon engaged with the apertures in the saw blade and in the tongue of the bit, after which the blade gripping portion of the clasp and the arm 18 are sprung into engagement with their respective recesses and the hook 19 into engagement with the aperture Qlthereby securely fastening the clasp to the saw blade for holding the inner end of the bit in place.
By constructing and arranging my im-.
proved saw and the bits'thereof as herein shown and described and providing a number of different styles of bits it will be seen that-the latter may be readily interchanged andsecurely fastened in operative engagement with the sawblade thus converting the latter into a fine or coarse, rip or cross cut saw as desired. 7
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation: of the inven= tion will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in theform, proportion and the IIllIlOI details of construction may beresorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any"of the 'advan* tages of theinvention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what 1' claim-is: i
1; A saw' blade havinga' grooved lower edge with a pin across theoutenend of the groove and apertures in the'side walls=0f the groove near its inner end; combinedwith a bithaving a tongue to fitsaid groove, and thetongue having a hook at'its outer-end to engage'the pin and an aperture throughdts inner end to register with those in said wall,
and aclasp movably sprung onto the rear end of the'saw blade and having a stud passing through the alined apertures.

The combination with a saw blade having an aperture through it near its lower edge and at its inner end, a bit fitting said edge and pierced with an apertureadapted to register with that in the blade, and'com nections between th outerends of the blade and bit; of a clasp whose body is adapted to embrace the rear end of the saw blade, the latter beingprovidedwithrecesses in its opposite faces to receive the clasp, and an arm depending from the latter and having a stud engaging the alined apertures.
The combination with a saw blade having an aperture through it near its lower edge and at its inner'endQaRbitfitting said edge andpierced withan aperture adapted to registerwith that*in th'eblade', and connections between the outerends'of the blade and bit; of a'clasp havinga U-shaped body adapted to embrace the rear end of the saw blade, and upwardly and downwardly extending arms, the latter having a stud adapted'to enter the al'ined apertures, the bladebeing provided with recesses to receive said body andarms whereby they will lie flush with its faces, and means for detachably securing the upper arm to the blade 6. The combination with a saw blade having an aperture through it near its lower edge and at its innerend, a bitfittin'g said edge and pierced with an aperture adapted to register with that in theblade, and con nections between the outer ends of the blade and bit; of a clasp having a U-shaped body adapted to embrace-the rear end of'the saw blade, and upwardly and downwardly extending'arms, astud on' the lower arm pro jecting: through the alined apertures, and an inturned hook attheextremity of'the upper arm, the faces of the saw blade having-re cessesto receive sa'id clasp and its arms whereby they lie fluslrwith said faces and the body of the saw blade having an apertllIQtO receive said hook.
