Description

DEANE'GLSHEDD. Strivev Door Support. No. 110,747. Paten ted Jan. 3, 1871 K MMMWMML ,4 WW1 M ifiaited 5mm vies gatwt diitm. 5
ROYAL E. DEANE AND "THOMAS SHEDD; OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOORS FOR RANGES.
- The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ROYAL E.- DEANE and THOMAS SHEDD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented, made, and applied to use, Improved means for holding in position the Doors of Ranges, Stoves, or Cooking-Stoves; and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description- 0f our invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making partof this specification, andtothe letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 isa front view of a cooking-range provided with our improvement.
Figure 2 is an end view of the same.
In the drawing like parts of the invention are desighated by the same letters of reference.
The nature of the present invention consists in the construction, as more fully hereinafter set forth, of improved means for holding in position the doors of ranges, stoves, and cooking-stoves, the invention being applicable more particularly to cooking-ranges; the object of the invention being to provide efii'oient and economical means for carrying out the purpose already set forth.
' To enable those skilled in the art to make and use our invention, the following description of its construotion and operation will be found suflioicnt.
A shows a cooking-range, to which our improvement has been applied, and
B is the oven-door, and
C a door giving access to the combustion-chamber of the range.
Both the doors B and O are hinged at their bottom edge, and are intended to be moved outward from the vertical position they occupy when closed into a horizontal or nearly horizontal position, as shown in fig. 2 of the drawing, that access may be had to the interior of the'oven or of the combustion-chamber.
That the doors B and 0 may be supported in this horizontal, or nearly horizontal position, the/levers D and D a-re employed.
The lever D is slotted very nearly its full length, and one end of the same is inserted beneath the loop d, secured upon the face of the range below the bottom line of the door B a suflicient distance to accomplish, in connection with the loop 6?, beneath whichthe opposite end of the lever is inserted, the desired object. v
The loop d is secured upon the face of the door B,
in line with the loop cl, secured upon the faoeof the range, and as the door B is moved outward, and d6-' scends into the horizontal or nearly horizontal posi v tion, the lower'endof the slotted lever D passes down beneath the loop (1 to its-full extent, while the upper end of the same passes upward beneath the loop (1 to its full extent, andstops the door B, and holds the same in the horizontal or nearly lRr-izontal position shown in fig. 2 of the drawing.
In the case of the door 0, one end of the lever D issecnred upon a rod, free to turn beneath the plates 0, scoured upon the face of the range a sufficient distance below the bottom of the door 0, so that when the door is lIl0 \'0(1 outward and depressed,
the upper end of the lever D inserted beneath the loop 0, secured upon the face of the door 0 shall move upward beneath the same a suflicient distance to allow the door to assume a horizontal or nearly horizontal position, as seen in fig. 2 of the drawing, and then to stop and support thedoor O in such position.
Either mode shown for attaching the lower end of the supporting lever may be availed of, the effectin both cases being the same.
Having thus described our invention,
\Vhat we claim as new is' The combination, with a door, B or O, of a supporting-lever D or D one end of which shall be held upon a rod or inserted beneath a loop scoured upon the face of a. range or 'stove, while its opposite end shall be inserted beneath a loop secured upon the door B or 0, when the same shall be constructed and operated substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
ROYAL E. DEANE. THOMAS SHEDD.
