Description

NITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
GEORGE W. THOMPSON, OF RIPLEY, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN REVERSIBLE PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 110,692, dated January 3, 1871.
Toall whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE W. THOMPSON, of Ripley, in the county of Brown and State ot' Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Reversible Plow; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification. Y
My invention relates to reversible doublemold-board plows; and has for its objects certain improvements thereon, which will rst be described in connection with all that is necessary to a full understanding thereof, and then clearly specified in the claims.
Figure l is a side View of my improved plow, and Fig. 2 is a front view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The double mold-board is made in two parts, A B, of sheet metal, and joined together on the line G, where they are secured by rivets or bolts to the oscillating brace D, by which they are supported from the beam.
The mold-board thus formed is supported on the brace E, and the latter journaled ou the post F in the usual way.
The advantage of this construction of the mold-board is in the simplicity and cheapness ot' construction and the facility it aiords of repairing` one part or substituting a new one without disturbing the other.
The two parts are readily formed by suitably bending up the edges G and H, which may be done by a drop-press or any simpler form of bending apparatus.
The improvement in the revolving brace D consists in bending it to the land-side from the line of the colter of the plow, as shown at I, for the purpose of allowing more freedom for the straw, weeds, and other like matters, which I find, in practice, prevents clogging to a very great extent.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters .Patent- 1. A double reversible mold-board, combined with a brace, E, constructed and arranged as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination, with the mold-board and beam of a reversible plow, ot' the support D, bent at I toward the land-side and from the colter to prevent clogging, as described.
GEO. W. THOMPSON.
