DBYINGhFOBMEB FOR STOCKINGS.
Specification of Letters Paten't.
Patented Aug. 4, 1914.
Application led April 20, 1914. Serial No. 833,183.
To alt whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES B. UPP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drying-Form ers for Stockings, of which the` following is a specification.
My invention relates to interiorly heated drying-formers adapted for stretching and drying textile fabrics such as stockings; and it consists in the three-part construction hereinafter fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing and the novel features of which `are specifically pointed out in the claims.
Figure l is mainly a side elevation of a complete former embodying my invention; port-ions of one of the hollow-casing sections and of the interposed partition-plate being broken away so as to show ,respectivel a full-width portion of said partition-p ate and an interior view of the opposed hollowcasing section. Fig. 2 is mainly an elevation at right angles to Fig. 1, but showing a por tion thereof in longitudinal section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig.' 3 is an enlarged cross-sceltionaly view on the line 33 yof Fie. 1.
'The hollow former illustrated is adapte to properly shape a stocking stretched thereon, and Ais heated as usual by steam supplied through an inlet 2 located on one side of a partition plate in the hollow casing, and discharged through an outlet 3 on the opposite side of said plate.
My improved former is made up of three separately formed parts, two of which are similar' hollow-casing sections, 5 and 5 respectively, forming opposed longitudinal half portions, while the third part is a partition plate 6 which is interposed between said casing sections 5 and 5 and tightly united with the latter by cross-wise clamping bolts 7, 7, 7 extending through openings provided therefor in said plate. The sections 5, and 5, are preferably right and left castings, each convexly shaped exteriorly and concaved interiorly asshown, and having edge portions` 5b and a base portion 5 arranged to abut in a vertical plane, and interior bosses 5 apertured for the clamping bolts 7, 7; while the partition plate 6 is preferably formed from sheet fiber or like material adapted to provide a satisfactory jointing seat for the abutting casing sections. The abutted base portions 5 of the latter are provided respectively with inlet and outlet apertures 2, 3 communicating with the 'hollow casing on opposite sides of the partition plate, and the latter is provided with zin opening or openings 10 near the upper end ot' the casing f or passage of the heating medium. The employment of the partition plate 6 as described also permits of very readily and accurately sizing the former, by merely allowing the edge portionA thereof to extend more or less beyond the contour line of the abutted half sections 5, 5, of the casing, as may be required. These sections are cheaply and satisfactorily produced, and when tightly clamped together against the interposed partition joint-piece as set forth, provide a novel and advantageous structure.
1. A .drying-former made up of opposed hollow-casing sections and an interposed apertured partition-plate joint-piece, and provided with inlet and outlet means on opposite sides of said partition plate.
2. A tlrying-foi-mer made up of opposed hollow-casing` .sections and an interposed apertured partition-plate joint-piece, and provided with inlet and outlet means on opposite sides of said partition plate; the edge portion of the latter extending beyond the opposed hollowcasing sections.
3. A drying-former made up of opposed hollowcasing cast-metal'sections and an interposed apertured partition-plate jointpiece of fibrous material, and provided with inlet and outlet means on opposite sides of said partition plate.
4. A drying-former made up of opposed hollow-casing cast-metal sections and an interposed apertured partition-plate jointpiece of fibrous material, and provided with inlet and outlet means on opposite @Mmmm sides smid partition plate; h@ edge pms ing bolts for saidv secions aanwending thmgh tion of ,the lamer extndng beyomf the said paizion pla, l@ opposed hollow-casing setioms. In estimony whereof ax my signatur@ 5. A dlymg-omer, made up of oppoed in pz'esen @if two Wmesses.'
