IMPROVEMENT IN `'l'RACE-BVIJCKLES.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the `same.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. KITTLEMAN, of Bloomfield, in the county of Davisand iu the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Iinprovenienti-sin Trace-Buckle; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip-y tion thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the lettersl of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.

-The nature ot' my invention consistsin the construction and arrangement of a trace-buckle, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.

InA order to enable others skilled in theart to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in `whieh Figure l is a, plan view, and

A represents the body or box ofthe buckle, pro-= vided at its front end with a 'cross-bar, a, for the attachment of the llame-strap, and at the rear end and sides with loops I) b, for the attachment oftbe usual straps.- Y f The sides of the box A aro provided with inclined slots d d; and at the front upper ends of said slots, on thc inner sidesof the box, arc'lugs e e, whichproject inward, as shown in fig. l. B. represents a. tongue or wedge, provided with corrugations or teeth z" t on its under-side, as shown in Near the rear end of the wedge B is cast a crossbar or rod, f, the ends of which project beyond the sides of the wedge, and are inserted in the inclined slots d d in the sides of the box A. l

Immediately in front ot' the rods f, the sides of the wedge are notched out to allowJ the passage' of the lugs e c. n

At the front end of the wedge-B is a pin, h, pro jecting do\\-nward, whichpin is inserted in a" hole in the trace; and us the trace is drawn backward, the wedge follows, the ends of the rod f movingdownward in the slots d (l, and the lugs e e pressing the teet-he' li of the wedge into the trace, securing the saine firmly. n y

Having thus fully described my invention,

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Iletters Iaten't, is-

1.- lThe body or box A, provided with rod a, loops t l), inclined slots 'tl-d, and lugs c e, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
