'WILLIS ARMSWORTH, OF CERRO GORDO, ILLINOIS.
CAP FOR DRAIN-TILES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, "Winnie ARMswon'm-I, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cerro Gordo, in the county of Piatt, State oil l llinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Caps for Drain- .liles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the ii'ivention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention. is directed to improven'ients in caps for drain tiles, and has tor its object to so construct a device of this eluu'ac'ler that it may be readily placed upon the upper end of the tile, and when in place will prevent foreign matter from entering, but will readilypermit water to enter the tile.
Vith these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of consliructiom formation, combination and arrai'igement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accou'lpanying drawing, in which 2- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the cap showing it in place upon a tile. Fig. 2 a vertical sectional view through the same. l ig. is a bottom plan view. 1
I l erring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a section of tile, which is con nected to a sewer pipe in any suitable man ner. In this instance the tile 1 is shown as tornu-qd from cement, but it will be of course u uderstood. that the same may be made from any ot ier material as well as the cap 2.
The cap 2 con'iprises a circular plate 3 havin depending therefrom an annular sum ginal iiange l, which is adapted, when the cap is upon the tile 1 to have its lower edge imsitioued below the upper edge of the tile 1. The diameter of the plate 3 is such that the inner surtace of the flange 41 is spaced from the upper side of the tile 1 so that water may freely pass through the space when entering the tile. Qhe under surface of the plate 3 is provided With a plurality of radially arranged elongated lugs 5, which have their inner ends spaced apart, and are adapted to rest upon the Specification of Letters Patent.

upper edge of the tile 1. By arranging the lug. "3 radially water passages G are provided, so that when said lugs are resting upon the iupper end of the tile 1 the water may pass through the passages 6 to 'the tile.
The vertical dimensions of the lugs 5 are less than the sin'iilar dimension of the flange 1, thus when the cap 1 is in place, the lower edge of said flange will be below the upper edge of the tile 1.
From this construction it will. be seen that a cap has been provided which can be readily applied or removed from the drain tile,
and one which exceedingly simple in construction and may be manufactured at a minimum cost.
- The plate 8 is provided with a plurality of openings 1'', which serve to thoroughly ventilate the cap.
What is claimed is 1. cap for drain tiles comprising a plate luiving depending therefrom a vertical marginal flange, a plurality of radially arranged. elongated lugs formed integral with the under surface of the plate so as to provide passi ;es, said lugs being adapted to rest upon the upper end of the drain tile, so that the lower edge of the flange will be below the upperedgc oi the drain tile, the diameter oi? said plate being such that said flange will be spaced from the side of the tile, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A cap for drain tiles comprising a- WILLIS ARMSWORTH. lVitnesses:
