UNITED STATES PATENT OEETCE.
HENRY EDl/VARD OLBRICH, OF CEDAR FALLS, ICE A, ASSIGNOR TO WVAGNER MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF CEDAR FALLS, IOWVA.
TOP AND COVER FOR CISTERNS, 800.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 11, 1906.
Application filed March 5,1906. Serial No. 305,009.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY EDWARD OL- BRIOH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cedar Falls, in the county of Blackhawk and State of Iowa, have invented'a new and useful Top and Cover for Cisterns, &e., of which the following is a specification.
My object is to provide a simple, strong, and durable fixed top and removable cover for a cistern specially adapted for conveniently fixing the cover on the top, as required, to be retained securely in its place without the use of any extraneous fastening device, and, as required, to prevent worms or insects or any dirty water or matter of any kind getting under the cover and into the cistern.
My invention consists in the construction and combination of the top and the cover in the crown or apex of a cistern, as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view of the top and cover fitted and fixed in the apex of the wall of a cistern. Fig. 2 is a top View from which a part of the removable cover is broken away to disclose the upper side and inner edge of the fixed top.
The numeral 10 designates the main part of the top in the form of a circular cast-iron rim of uniformdiameter that may vary in size and weight, as desired. It has a flange 12, extending outward horizontally at right ngles from its top portion, and the top surface of the flange is inclined downward from and prevent any accidental displacement I,
thereof and opening of the cistern.
Having thus set forth the purpose of my invention and the manner of its application and use, the practical utility and advantages thereof will be readily understood.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a cistern, a metal rim complete in one piece having a flange extending outward at right angles near its top portion to produce an annular shoulder, inclined downward at its outer portion and fixed in the top of the wall of a cistern and a movable cover solid and complete in one piece inclined downward at its circumference to rest upon the flat surface of the flange to contact with the annular shoulder at the top portion of the fixed rim and flange, as shown and described, for the purposes stated.
HENRY EDWVARD OLBRICI-I.
