TOILET APPLIANCE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 30, 19] 4.
Application filed March 6, 1914. Serial No. 823,037.
To all whom it may concern 7 Be itknown that I, PAUL Asz'ranos, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet Appliances, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a toilet appliance, and has for its object to provide an appliance of such class with means, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, to constitute a hinged compartment elementcapable of being positioned below a water supply faucet and to communicate with the water discharge pipe when in use and further capable of being swung to inclose the faucet and be disconnected from the outlet when not in use.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a toilet appliance which is simple in its construction and arrangement, readily shifted to operative position, conveniently moved to inoperative position and detach ably maintained in such position, strong, durable, readily set up and inexpensive.
With the foregoing and. other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in. the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within. the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views -Figure l. is an elevation of a toilet appliance in accordance with this invention, showing the adaptation thereof in connection with a pair of water supply faucets and a water discharge pipe. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the appliance and further showing in full lines the appliance in operative position and in dotted lines in inoperative position. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the appliance, and Fig. 1- is a perspective view of the means for detachably maintaining the appliance in inoperative posit-ion.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 5 denotes a support or wall having connected thereto a cold water supply faucet 6 and a hot water supply faucet 7. The faucets communicate with the source of water sup ply and arranged below said faucets and secured to the support 5 is a water discharge pipe 8, the latter is disposed at an inclination and projects outwardly from said support Secured to the support fiibetweeu the faucets (3 and 7 and discharge pipe 8, through the medium of holdfast devices 9 is a plate 10 provided with a pair of outwardly projecting apcrtured lugs 11 and further provided above said lugs with a spring clip 12, the latter constituting a retaining means for a purpose to be presently referred to.
The reference character 13 denotes a supporting band, which has a rearwardly projecting and upwardly inclined stem 14, the latter being pivotally connected as at 15 to the lugs 11. Supported by, extending through and fixed to the band 13 is the body portion 16 of a compartment element. The said body portion 16 is in the form of a basin and has in its bottom an outlet nipple 18, to which is attached an outlet pipe 19, the latter being adapted to extend in the discharge pipe 8 when the element is lowered to the position shown in Fig. 2. The pipe 19 is provided with a peripheral flange 20 which abuts against the outer end of the pipe 8 to limit the downward movement of the body portion 16, and said flange 20 also constitutes a means, in connection wit-h the pipes 8 and 19 for supporting the body portion 16 when the latter is lowered. Proj ecting from one side of the body portion 16, at the top thereof is an extension 21, provided with a pair of compartments 22 and 23, the former being deeper than the latter is adapted to house a glass, while the latter can house a tooth brush or nail brush. Projecting from the other side of the body portion 16 is an extension 2-1 formed with a compartment 25 for the reception of a cake of soap.
When the device is not in use, the compartment element is swung upwardly so as to inclose the faucets 6 and 7, the stem 14 being engaged by the spring clip 12 so that the elements will be detachably secured in the position as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. The supporting band 13 has pivot ally attached thereto a bail 26. The bail is utilized for lowering the compartment element to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
That I claim is The combination with a water discharge pipe extending upwardly at an inclination and a water supply faucet, of a plate fixed to a support and interposed between said faucet and pipe and provided Wit-h ;apair of apertured lugs, a spring clip projecting from said plate above said lugs, a supporting band provided with a stem pivotally connected to said lugs, a compartment element secured to the band and having one oi? its compartments provided with an outlet nipple, an outlet pipe connected to said nipple :and adapted to extent in said discharge pipe, and a flange formed on said outlet pipe and engaging said discharge pipe for supportingsaid element in a horizontal position, said element capable of being swung upwardly whereby said stein will be engaged by the clip to maintain the element in such position.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
