ostanchors, and more articularly to the c ass of adjustable bases. I y
The primary obj ect of the invention is the base of this character Whereground so as to sustain the same rigid 1H ijupright position for the fastening or a fence thereto;
Another object of the invention is the provision of a base of this character wherein difierent sizes of posts can be anchored in ound without requiring the sinking of the l ower end of the post therein or the mounting of the same in a cementitious base.
- 'efiicient in its purpose,
; provision A further object of the invention is the of a base which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and .and inexpensive in manufacture." I
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of arts as will be hereinafter fully describe illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and'fointed out in thelclaims hereunto appende In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a base constructed in accordance with the invention, showing b dotted lines a portion of a post held therein. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on Fig. 1. Fig. 3 isa fragmentary vertical sec tional view. 4
- Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, the base comprises superposed plates 5 and 6 respectively, shape, preferably square and may be, made from any desirable material, the same being united to or integral with a column or pedestal 7 which is arranged centrally thereof,

Supported upon the uppermost plate 6 is a ost clam comprising a split ortwo'part t-u iforin co umn 9, both parts of which are provided at their longitudinal edges with art bein adapted for engagement with a justin bots 11 which are engaged therewith and are also passed through the ears on the other part of the column so that the said two parts of the column can be adjusted with relation to each other and for securely clamping a post 12 therein for vertically supporting the same, the said bolts carrying nuts 11 for securing the same in the ears. The lower end of the column 9 on both parts thereof is formed with out-turned wings forming feet 13 through one of whichare passed permanent fasteners 14, while the other wing has passed therethrough adjustable bolt members 15, the same'being engaged in the slots Band carrying the usual nuts 16 which work against the under face of the uppermost plate 6 so that one of the parts of the column 9 can be adjusted and fastened in such position with respect to the other partthereof which is permanently fixed to the plate 6 as shown.
1n the mounting of the base the lowermost plate 5 and post 7 are embedded in the ground so that the u permost plate 6 will lie substantially on alevel with the surface of the ground or slightly beneath the same, and the post is clamped within the column 9 in a manner as hereinbefore described.
What is claimed is:
I 1. A post support comprising a base section formed with spaced parallelslots opening through the free edge thereof, a pair of semi-tubular shaped members arranged 0pposite each other and having out-turned lower ends superim osed upon the section, astening one out-turned end to the section, and bolt members passed through theother out-turned end and ad justably engaged in the slots inthe base section. I
2. A post support comprising a base section formed with spaced parallel slots opensame s'rnrns rarnnrorrion.
permost plate 6 being formed with ing through the free edge thereof, a pair members and bolt members passed through of semi-tubular shaped members arranged the said ears for the clamping of the said opposite each otherand having out-turned members about a post.
