FENCE POST ANCHOR Filed Oct. 23, 1941 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventor Attori/gy Patented Oct. 27, 1942 UNETED HCE.
2 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in fence post anchors and has for one of its important objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character comprising novel means for iirmly securing said device in the ground,
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a fence post anchor of the character described comprising unique means for adjustably connecting the device to a post.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a fence post anchor of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable in use, compact and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specication, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view principally in vertical section through a fence post anchor constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the device.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the upper portion of the anchor, showing the elements separated.
Figure 4 is a perspective View of the upper portion of a post which is adapted to have the anchor connected thereto.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the lower portion of the anchor rod.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises an elongated concrete body I which is embedded at an inclination in the ground, as at 2, with its upper end portion projecting above the surface offsaid ground. The body I comprises a horizontally elongated enlargement 3 on its lower end for anchoring said body in the ground. Reinforcing rods 4 are provided in the body I.
Embedded in the body I is a metallic rod 5. At its lower end, the rod -5 terminates in an angularly extending, inturned anchoring hook 6. Secured on the lower end portion of the rod 5 in opposed relation to the hook 6 is another anchoring hook '1.
Welded to the upper end portion of the rod 5 and projecting from the corresponding end of the concrete body I is a metallic bar 8. The eX- posed end portion of the bar 8 has formed therein an opening 9. The opening 9 is for the reception of the bight portion of a substantially V-shaped connector I0 in the form of a rod of suitable metal.
A post to be anchored or braced is indicated at II. The post Il has formed transversely in -to be expeditiously made.
its upper portion an off center opening I2. Mounted on the upper portion of the post II is a pair of angular brackets I3. The brackets I3 are secured in position through the medium of a bolt I4 which passes through the opening I2. The upper portion of the post II is notched, as at I5, for the reception of thebracket I3, said notches communicating with the opening I2.
The brackets I3 comprise outturned, apertured end portions I6 through which the end portions of the substantially V-shaped connector I Il are inserted. The end portions of the connector III are threaded, as at I1, for receiving adjusting and securing nuts I8.
It will thus be seen that an anchor has been provided for firmly securing the post II in position. The nuts I8 permit any desired adjustment When the nuts I 8 are tightened the brackets I3 are drawn together in a manner to rmly clamp the post II therebetween. Thus, with the brackets I3 engaged in the notches I5, swinging movement of said brackets on the bolt I4 is positively prevented.
It is believed that the many advantages of a fence post anchor constructed n accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. A fence post anchor comprising a concrete body embedded in the ground and` including a horizontally elongated lower portion, a rod embedded in said body, opposed anchoring hooks on the lower end of said rod embedded in the enlargement, a bar iixed to the upper end portion of said rod and projecting from the body, and means connecting said bar to a fence post, said means including a pair of angular brackets mounted on the post and having openings therein, and a substantially V-shaped connector mounted on the bar and having its end portions engaged in the apertures of said brackets and anchored to said brackets.
2. A fence post anchor of the character described comprising a pair of angular brackets mounted on opposite sides of a fence post, a bolt extending through the post at a point adjacent the periphery thereof for securing the brackets thereto, a rod anchored in the ground, a bar mounted on said rod, a substantially V- shaped member connected to the rod and including threaded end portions extending through the brackets, and nuts threaded on said end portions for connecting the member to the brackets and for clamping the post between said brackets.
