FIZZ/275L351 UNITED STATES MARCUS L. DAY, OF

To all whom it mm concern Be it known t at I, Masons L. DAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Polson, in the county of Flathead and State of Montana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification. 1 The present invention relates to pipe sustaining devices for the flues of chimneys,
In carrying out my invention itis my purpose to provide simple and effective means which are adapted to be-employed in the construction of an ordinary brick chimney and which are further adapted to support and maintain within the flue opening of the chimney the smoke pipe ,ofan rdi-' nary stove, v I also aimtoyprovide a device of this character which shall be'simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, and readily positioned so as to notinterfere with the laying of the bricks comprising the chimney but which will also form reinforcements for the chimney. t
It is also my purpose-to provide a pipe fastener which, shall be sustained between the courses of brick directly above and below. 'the'flue opening, the said fastener preferably comprising a pair of elements, each be-. ing formed from a single strand of wire, and each of the said strands having a portion which projects beyond the chimney breast, and which isprovided with an eye for the reception of the straightenedends of pipe engaging loops. The portion of j each of the members, which may be termed the body thereof, embodies spaced connected 7 arms, the rear. portion of which being arranged at'a right angle to the said body, the 4,0 s ace between the rightangular portion and t e body providing or the reception of the mortar employed in the constrimtion of the. chimney breast, and the said mortar efiec-- tively. sustaining the fasteners immovably on the said'chimney breast.
With the foregoing objects 111 view, the invention further consists in the novel construction, combinatikm and arrangement of parts set forth 'inandfalling within the sec e of the appened claim. v n the drawing, Figure 1 is asect'ionel view of a chimne showing my deiu'ce applied thereon. ig. 2 is a. perspectiveview of one'of the stove pipe, sustammg Specification or Letters am Application filed June 12, 1912. SerialNo; 703,315.
to members, the dotted 'linesindicating one of overthe said sustaining member.
Patented cam o, 914? the bricks. of the chimney which is arranged- In the drawing, 1 designates a'chimn'ey of" brlck construction, and '2 the stove pipe opening therein. 3-+3 indicate, what I term, the tie mem-- here which are adapted to be arranged between the bricks that provide the walls of the opening 2. Each of these membersfiii comprises an elongated arm 4- which has its free end bent to provide an eye 5, while its opposite end is bentat an angle to the member 4 and provides asubstantially U-shaped member 6, the end of which is continued in a plane with but at a suitable distance from the arm 4, and provides what I term the shorter arm 7 of the device. This arm has its extremity bent angularly toward the arm 4, and the said angular portion is looped around the said arm 4, as indicated by the numeral 8. As illustrated in the drawing, the tie'memhers are permanently secured betweenthe bricks whlch form the Wall of a chimneyabout the flue opening and are located on opposite sides of the said opening. The
arms at and'7 are disposed longitudinally between two of the bricks while their U-shaped members 6 are disposed vertically or in a line with the inner end or side of the bricks forming the walls of the opening 2, the said 7 tie receiving the mortar which connects the bricks. The elongated arms 4 project a suitable distance beyond the chimney, and their eyes 5 are adapted to receive the ends of a wire member. 9 which has its central portion looped around the horizontal ortion or that portion of a stove pipe 10 wiich enters the '0 ening 6. The eye of the lower member 4 a soj'receives the end of a wire member 9 the said Wire being looped around and securcd'to the vertical ortion of the pipe 10.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is;
he members permanently secured between the courses of brick which form the wall of A pipe fastener for chimneys consisting of the chimney about a fine openingand located I I on opposite sides ofsaid openin each of 5 said members formed of a piece 0? wire and com risingan elongated arm projecting beyon the chimney wall andhnving: an eye at its outer end, the inner end of the said I arm being bent up at an angle to form a opening, and t e loop member having extensions secured to the eyes of the tie arms, A 10 and a' w re loop' member secured to the yertical portion of the stove pipe and having an extension secured to the eye of one of the tie arms.
In testlmony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
