Description
O. T. MOEWEN- SPAOE BLOCK FOR GROSS ARMS.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 4, 1913.
1,099,612, Patented June 9,1914.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OWEN T. MOEWEN, OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
SPACE-BLOCK FOR CROSS-ARMS.
Application filed September 4, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OWEN T. MoEwnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane, State of \Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Space-Blocks for Cross-Arms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to space blocks for cross arms and has for an object to provide an adjustable spacing block which may be easily and quickly applied to hold two adjacent cross arms in rigid spaced relation.
With the above object in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be made in the minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying; drawing forming part of this specification: Figui-e 1 is a side elevation of a telegraph pole having double cross arms braced by my improved spacing block. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional View taken on the line 2-2 Fig. 1. Fig. is a detail perspective view of one member of the block. Fig. t is a detail perspective view of the other member of the block. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the adjusting bolt. Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of the cross arm securing bolt.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts, the spacing block is shown to comprise oppositely tnrned U-shaped members 10 and 11 the legs of both members being longitudinally slotted near the ends as shown at 12, the slots of both members registering one with the other and receiving bolts 18 the heads of which engage the inner faces Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 9, 1914-.
Serial No. 788,148.
of the legs of the innermost member while the retaining nuts 14 of the bolts engage the outermost faces of the of the outermost members and when tightened adjustably clamp the legs of both members together. A bolt 15 is passed through registering openings formed in the bridge portions of both U-shaped members.
In applying the spacing block above described the adjusting bolts 13 are loosened and the members 10 and 11 passed between the double cross arms 16 of the wire supporting pole 1.7, the members then being forced apart until the bridge portions bear against the confronting inner faces of the cross arm, whereupon the adj usting bolts are tightened to lock both members in this position. The belt 15 is now passed through registering openings 18 formed in the arm connecting portions of the U-shaped members and holds the spacing block against gravitation from between the arms. The spacing block when applied positively prevents relative movement of the double cross arms.
lVhat is claimed, is
An adjustable spacing block for double cross arms comprising a pair of oppositely turned interlitting U-shaped members the legs of which are longitudinally slotted near the ends, the slots of both members registering, adjusting bolts passed through the slots of the legs of both members and adjustably securing the members together, and a bolt passed through registering openings formed in the arm connecting portions of both U- shaped members and extending outwardly beyond said bridge portion.
In testimony whereof, I alfix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
