ARNOLD UNIDI, OF CARPIO, NORTH DAKOTA.
SWINGLETREE-HOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 2, 1914.
Application filed March 7, 1913. Serial No. 752,709.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARNOLD UNDI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carpio, in the county of Ward and State of North Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Swingletree-Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to swingle tree hooks and the object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient device of this character which will prevent disengagement by accident of the trace or tug cock-eye therefrom.
Further objects of the invention will ap pear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a top plan view. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents an ordinary swingle tree which has mounted upon its end a sleeve 2 held in position by the hook-retaining staple 3 which passes through the sleeve and enters the hook. The hook: proper consists of an integral casting having a ring 4: at one end formed to surround the sleeve 2 and at the opposite end provided with a hook 5 in which the trace or tug cock-eye 6 is adapted to engage. The ring a is held in position on the sleeve by being straddled by the legs of the staple, as shown. The body of the hook has formed thereon a lug 7 to which is pivoted a locking pawl 8 having a forwardly extending arm 9 adapted to engage the tongue of the hook, as shown.
Integral with the pawl is a depending arm 9 having a weight 10 on its outer end which holds the pawl 8 in engagement with the tongue until released by manually raising the weighted arm 9.
Wlrat is claimed is 1. A swingle tree engaging hook compris ing a vertically disposed ring or eye for surrounding the swingle tree, a horizontally disposed hook formed integrally therewith, a pawl pivoted to the body of the hook for vertical movement and adapted to extend diagonally across the same and rest upon an intermediate portion of the tongue thereof and a weighted arm for actuating the pawl.
52. A. swingle tree hook comprising a vertically disposed ring to surround the end of the swingle tree, a horizontally disposed hook formed integrally with the said ring, a lug on the body of the hook, a pawl pivoted for vertical movement to the lug and adapted to extend diagonally across the hook and rest upon an intermediate portion of the tongue thereof and a weighted arm connect ed to the pawl and adapted to hold it in operative position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ARNOLD UNDI.
