Description

A-. R. TUCKER. TROUSERS SUPPORT.
ABPLIOATION FILED FEB. 7, 1913.

ART R. TUCKER, OF GREENWICH, OHIO.
TROUSERS-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 7, 1913. Sen'al No. 746,921.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ART R. TUCKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greenwich, in the county of Huron and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention is designed as an improved trousers support and has primarily for its object, the provision of such a device whereby the trousers are properly and comfortably supported without the use of suspenders, or a tight encircling belt, the former of which gives an undressed appearance to a man, while the latter, to properly hold up the trousers, must be drawn so tightly around the body as to be uncomfortable and more or less injurious because of its compression.
A further object of my invention is to provide a light and simple device of this nature which is easily applied and concealed from view when in use, and which will effectively support the trousers without the belt or elastic band employed in connection therewith, passing over the abdomen.
A still further object of my invention con templates the provision of adjustable and elastic means attached to and supported by the suspender buttons ordinarily found upon the interior of the trousers, such means being adapted to faultlessly support the trousers without inconveniencing the wearer in any way whatsoever.
The above and additional objectsare accomplished by such means as are illustrated in their preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more particularly pointed out in the claims which are appended and form a part of this application.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1, is a detailperspective view of a device constructed in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2, is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3, is a fragmentary sectional view.
Proceeding now with the description of the drawings wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a specially constructed metallic plate, having a pair of upwardly extending tongues 2 formed integrally therewith, one upon each extremity thereof. The tongues 2 are slightly curved toward each other, and extend at an acute angle to the plate 1 so as to conform, as near as possible to the shape or contour of the back, or that part of the body upon which the plate is adapted to fit. The upper extremity of each tongue 2 is provided with an opening 3 and a longitudinally extending slot 4 in communication therewith, the said slot increasing in size from the opening to the inner edge of the tongue, to facilitate the fastening of the plate inproper place, as will hereinafter appear. Each end of the said plate 1 is provided with a slot 5 through which an elastic band 6 is passed as is clearly shown in Fig. '1 of the drawings.
The bands 6 being in duplicate but one will be described in detail, the same comprising a looped portion 7, by means of which Patented May 19, 1914.
the plate 1 is secured thereto; the size of the loop being varied as desired by means of a catch 8 of the ordinarytype usually employed for adjusting the size of the loopsemployed in connection with. suspenders. By increasing or decreasing the size of the loop 7 the length of the band 6 is varied, thereby permitting use of the device regardless of the size of the trousers to which it is attached. The free end of the band 6 is provided with a buttonhole 9, and strengthened by strips 10 stitched or otherwise secured upon the extremity of the band. A second buttonhole 11 is provided near the free end of the band 6, at a predetermined distance from the hole 9 just described, the said two buttonholes 9 and 11 being adapted to fit over the suspender buttons provided upon the front interior of the trousers to which the invention is applied. The bands 6 being exactly alike, it will be seen that'the suspender buttons on both sides of the trousers are fitted through the buttonholes 9 and 11 provided for that purpose, while the openings 3 of the tongues 2 are fitted upon the rear Suspender buttons by reason of the slots 4 formed within said tongue.
In applying my invention, the plate 1 1s first placed within the trousers, and connected through the medium of the tongues 52 to the rear suspender buttons, the bands 6 are then adjusted, by manipulatlng the catches 8 to regulate the size of the loop as desired, whereupon the buttonholes 9 and 11 of the said band are fitted over the front suspender buttons of the trousers, the said bands fitting upon the waist line of the wearer and properly and comfortably supporting the trousers as desired. To prevent any irritation or discomfort, the edges of the plate are rounded as at 12 throughout the entire plate.
It will be seen from the above, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings that the operation and application of the device is simple in the extreme; that the elasticity of the bands creates sufficient pressure upon the waist line of the wearer to support the trousers as desired; and that the adjustable means provided in connection with the device will permit use of the same regardless of the size of the wearers waist line or the position of the suspender buttons upon the trousers.
It will be understood that the above description and the accompanying drawings comprehend only the general and preferred embodiment of my invention, and that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims and without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A trousers support including an elongated plate member shaped to conform to the configuration of that portion of the back against which it is fitted, integrally formed upwardly converging tongues projecting from the respective extremities of the said plate member, each tongue having an opening formed therein at the extremity thereof, the said tongues being further provided with a diverging slot communicating the inner edge of the said tongue with said opening to facilitate the insertion of the said tongues over the support means, and means carried by the said plate for supporting the trousers, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A trousers support including an elongated pliable metallic plate member shaped to conform to the configuration of that portion of the body against which it is placed, the edges of the said plate member being rounded, integrally formed resilient upwardly converging tongues projecting, one each from the respective extremities of the said plate member, each tongue being provided with an opening formed therein at the extremity thereof, said tongues being further provided with a converging slot communicating the inner edge of the tongue with said opening to facilitate the forced insertion of the said tongues over the support means of the plate, and adjustable means carried by the said plate member for supporting the trousers, as and for the purpose set forth.
