FENNEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newburgh, in the county of Orange and State of New York. have invented certain new and useful. improvements in Gras and Air Burning Burners; and l do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in air and gas mixers and more; particularly to mixers of this character having gas and air burning burners.
The main object of the invention is to provide air supply means automatically controlled by the pressure of the inflowing gas.
Another obj ect is t0 rovide pressure controlled means for reguliiting the air supply to the .mixing chamber so constructed as to be reliable and to enhance the life of said means.
Another object is to provide simple and eliicient means for controlling the amount ofv means being adjustable to vary the quantity Another object is to provide simple and effective adjusting ineansfor the gas inlet.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangements of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.

This shutter is secured to the yoke 13, the fingers 13 of which are lsoldered 'orl otherwise rigidly connected with its cap 27 at diametrically-opposite points as is 'shown clearly in Fig.4 2 and by means of which( said shutter is moved vertically within the cylindrical rcasing 16 when the diaphragm 6 is expanded or collapsed, said shutter being controlled by the pressure of the gas under said diphragm. From the above description it will be obvious that the diaphram G willbe controlled by the gas pressure in the supply pipe l and through the rod 12 and yoke 13 control the position of the shutter 26 Without necessitating any apertures being made in said diaphragm thereby prolonging the life thereof.
In the operation of the device when the burner B is to be lighted` the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 2, the diaphragm 6 bein(r in collapsed position, it being under stood that the check 25 has already been adjusted to permit the desired quantity 'of gas to be admitted therethrough. Immeadmitted will-`iow through pipes l and 14 and pass directly through pipes 15, shank 24, check 25 and pipe 20 into the burner without any air having been mixed therewith and when this 'rich gas is lighted, no
explosion will occur such as usually takes place when mixed air and gas are ignlted. The gas also flows through pipe 1 and nipple L'il under the diaphragm 6 and the pressure thereof 4causes said diaphragm to raise the rod 12 and the yoke 13 connected therewith, thereby elevating the. shutter 2G and gradually opening the air inlet ports 17 in the cyl- .inder 1G and permitting the air to How into the mixing chamber and there combine with the gas which enters through the slots 25 in the check A5 the diaphragm gradually expands the shutter continues to be raised gradually exposing l the stop-like lower ends of the openings 17 and thus admitting more air to the mixing chamber,

I claim as my invention: 1. The combination with a gas burner, of a vibratory member controlled by the presvdiately the cook 2 is opened the rich gas sure of the gassupply, an air and gas mixing chamber Ahaving air inlet ports, a casing surrounding said chamber and having air inlet ports, a shutter telescopically engaged with said casing, means connecting said shutter with said vvibratory member whereby said shutter is opened or closed laccording to the pressure ot the gas supply, and means for regulating the uantity of gas admitted into said mixing Ichi mber.
. 2.y The combination with a gas burner, an air and gas mixing chamber connected therewith andhaving air inlet ports in its side walls, a gas supply pipe terminating'in an egg-shaped' member disposed in said mixing chamber and' having discharge openings therein, means for adjusting said discharge openings to vary the amount of gas admitted to said chamber, and means for controlling the amount of air admitted to said chamber.
3. The combination with a gas burner, of a gas supply pipe having a diaphragm chamber communicating therewith., a bypass pipe connected with said supply pipe, an air and gas mixing chamber connected with said burner, a gas supply member connected with said by-pass pipe and extending into said mixing chamber, said gas supply member having adjustable openings for varying the amount of gas admitted to said chamber; said chamber having air inlet ports, ai shutter for cont-roll ing said air inlet ports connected with and controlled by said vibratory member, and means connected with said shutter for varying the size of the gas 'inlet openings.
