To all 1li/1,0m t may concern Be it known that I, JAMES Gr. Huertas, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Licking and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shipping-Tags, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a shipping tag and while the device may be used wherever an ordinary tag may be employed it is especially adapted for use with packages sent by parcel post, and the object of the invention is to strengthen the tag thereby avoiding danger of n0n-delivery of the package by reason of damage to the tag attached thereto.

A further object of the invention is to facilitate the tying of packages designed to be sent by parcel post.

The invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

ln these drawings l represents the tag, formed of suitable stiff paper or card board, and having upon its .front face suitable lines or spaces for the writing of naines and addresses, and having also upon said face any desired and appropriate printed matter. The rear face of the tag is provided with a longitudinal metal strip the end portions of which are bent over upon the end marginal portions of the front face of the tag. A transverse metal strip 3 also extends across lthe rear end of the tag and has its ends bent over upon the side marginal portions of the front face of the tag. The strips 2 and 3 are secured to each other and also to the tag by a suitable rivet et, which passes through the strips at their point oit' intersection. Suitable securing tabs 0r buttons are arranged upon the front face of the Copies of this patent may be obtained for :ve cents each, by addressing the tag and are secured by suitable eyelets or rivets which pass through the tag and also through the strips 2 and il, respectively. In tying the package the cord is of course passed around the buttons 5 in the usual manner. This affords a tag firmly braced both longitudinally and trausversely, and not readily torn or destroved, and at the same time facilitates the tying and untyiug of the package to which the tag is applied.

lVhat I claim is 1. The combination with a tag, of intersecting strips of reinforcing n'iatcrial carried by the rear face of the tag, said strips being secured to each other and to the tag at their pointy of intersection, the end portions of said strips being bent over upon the front. face of.' the tag. and cord soeur ing devices carried by the front 'face of the tag, said cord securing devices being counected through the tag to said reinforcing means.

2. The combination with a tag, of intersecting metal strips extending across the rear face of the tag haring their end por tions bent over upon the front face of the tag, means securing said strips to each other and to the tag at their point of intersection, and buttons arranged upon the .front .face of the tag and secured to said strips upon the back of the tag, a portion of said buttons overlapping the end portions of said strips as and for the purpose set forth.
