SAW-SET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 28, 1914.
Application filed. April 22, 1913. Serial No. 762,921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN W. UnLnN- liOT'l, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ferdinand, in the county of Idaho, State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Sets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to im provements in saw sets, and has for its ob ject to provide a device of this character with interchangeable tooth engaging heads, so that saw teeth of various sizes can be set.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is exceedingly simple in construction, and one which can be manipulated to quickly set the teeth of saws at proper angles to the body thereof.
Vith these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device, showing it in use in connection with a saw. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken at right angles to the sectional view of Fig. 2. Fig. at is a detail perspective view of one of the tooth engaging heads.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the handle, which is rectangular in cross section, and is slidably engaged by the slot 2 formed in the block 3, said block terminating at one end in a curved arm 4-. Passing through one end of the block 3 is a set screw 5, the inner end of which being adapted to engage one edge of the handle to hold the block 3 and arm 4 in adjusted positions upon said handle. Formed in one end of the handle is a longitudinal bore 6, which opens into the open recess 7 formed in said handle, and in which operates the milled nut 8, said nut being adapted to engage the threaded end or" the shank 9, which is passed through the bore 6, and as the head 10 is formed integral with the shank, the same will be held against accidental displacement. The head 10 is provided at one end with a tooth engaging slot 11. which leads to the transverse opening 12, said opening serving to accommodate the point of the engaged tooth to prevent injury thereto. One end of the bore 6 opens into the groove 13 formed upon the inner end of the handle and is engaged by the convexed edge 14 formed upon the head 10. Thus it will be seen that when the head 10 engages the groove 1 and the nut 8 is manipulated, that accidental rotation of the head is prevented.
In operation the slot 11 is engaged with the tooth to be set, and at which time the arm 4- has its end engaged against the body of the saw, it being of course-understood that the handle has been operated to set the tooth, and that the angle of the same is limited when the arm contacts with the saw body.
Further it will be noted that by providing interchangeable heads, that not only saws of diiierent sizes can be set, but that saws of different styles can be operated upon.
What is claimed is A saw set comprising a handle. said handle having one end provided with a longitudinal bore which opens into a recess, a nut mounted in the recess, a head having a tooth engaging slot carried thereby, a shank formed integral with the head and passable through said bore for engagement with the nut, said handle having a groove formed in its end, said. head having a convened edge for engaging said groove to preventrotation of the head upon manipulation of the nut.
In testimony whereof, I afiiX my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
HERMAN W. UHLENKOTT.
Witnesses:
F. M. Brenna, J. H. BIEKER.
