To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS A. MAT- 'rHEws, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Delivery-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to delivery cabinets for use in serving paper drinking cups, envelops, cards and other articles of fiat form, and it may be for separate use or as a component part of stationery cabinets such as shown in my Patents Nos. 748,967 and 1,028,091.

The objects of the invention are to provide a simplified feeding mechanism toward which the articles are continuously fed by a spring pressed follower. These objects I attain by the mechanism shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of a delivery cabinet with my improvements applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective of the feed and follower mechanism removed.

A, designates the cabinet, which may be of suitable size and materials. In the front wall of the cabinet is a vertical slot a, while in the front end of the top is provided the transverse delivery slot a. The top of the cabinet is provided with a hinged lid A, by raising which the envelops and the like may be placed in the cabinet.

B, is a longitudinal central rod extending along the bottom of the cabinet and provided with threaded ends extending through the ends of the cabinet and firmly secured thereto or to other suitable supports by the nuts Z) 5. Upon the rod B, is mounted a follower having a horizontal base C, provided with a central sleeve a, sliding on the rod. The follower C, is secured at its lower ends to ears 0, c, projecting up from the base. The base is provided along its outer edges with ribs 0 0 on which the lower edges of the envelops and the like may rest.

D, is a standard mounted at its upper end in a bracket d, secured to the front wall of the cabinet. The lower end of the standard is provided with a transverse aperture (Z, through which the rod B, passes and where it is firmly secured by a pin (Z2. Upon the lower end of the standard D, is coiled a spring E, the outer end of which is secured at c, to the follower base C, at 0 so that the tendency of the spring is to draw the follower O constantly toward the stand ard D.

F, is the feeder comprising a sleeve f, sliding freely on the standard D, and suspended by a spring G from the bracket d. From the sleeve f, a handle or finger piece f, eX- tends outwardly through the vertical slot a, so that the operator may depress the feeder by its handle and then the spring will raise the feeder. The feed of the articles is effected by two inclined spring teeth H, H, secured at their lower ends to a transverse bar it, secured to the rear side of the sleeve f. These spring teeth H, extend upwardly and rearwardly and have rubber or other friction surfaces f at their upper ends, against the front article of the pack held within the cabinet. It follows, therefore, that when the feeder is depressed the spring teeth H, will yield and slide down along the envelop or other article and then upon the operator releasing the handle the spring G, will pull the feeder or ejector upwardly and the surfaces F, of the teeth H, will engage the envelop or other article and slide it upwardly or outwardly through the slot (4, in reach of the operator. The cabinet may be placed vertically as well as horizontally, if desired, and its hinged lid and sides may have glass panels so that advertising matter may be displayed therethrough, if desired.

What I claim is:

1. The combination with a cabinet having a central vertical slot in its front wall and a transverse delivery slot in its top, of a standard mounted within the front end of the cabinet, a bracket supporting the upper end of the standard, a sleeve sliding on the standard and having a finger piece projecting through the vertical slot, rearwardly and upwardly inclined spring fingers secured at their lower or inner ends to the said sleeve and adapted at their upper free ends to yieldingly engage an article and force it up through the transverse top slot, a contractile spring secured at its upper end to the said bracket and secured at its lower end to said sleeve, a follower for the opposite end of the pile of articles, and a spring constantly pulling the follower toward the said spring fingers to hold the pile thereagainst.

2. The combination with the cabinet having a vertical slot in its front wall and a transverse discharge slot in its top, of a standard in the front end of the cabinet,' a central longitudinal rod mounted at its ends in the bottom of the cabinet, a feeder sliding on the standard to force the articles through the delivery slot and having a finger piece projecting through the vertical slot, a follower provided with a base sliding freely on the longitudinal rod, and a spring coiled around the lower end of the vertical standard and connected at its outer end to the follower to draw it constantly toward the feeder.

8. The combination with the cabinet having a vertical slot in its front wall and a transverse discharge slot in its top, of a standard in the front end of the cabinet having a transverse aperture through its lower portion, a longitudinal rod secured at its front end in said aperture; securing devices for the ends of the rod, a feeder sliding on the standard to force the articles through the delivery slot and having a finger piece projecting through the vertical slot, a follower provided with a base sliding freely on the longitudinal rod, and a spring coiled on the lower end of the standard and connected at its outer end to the follower, said spring exerting a constant pull on the follower to hold the'front end of the pile firmly against the sliding feeder.
