IMPROVEMENT lN TOOL-HANDLES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDGAR MURRAY, of the city and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvementin Handles for Tools; and the following is hereby declared to be a full and correct description of the some.

My invention relates to means for firmly holding in place in handles such tools as brad-awls, small chisels, files, &c., and consist-s in forming the t'errnle for the end ofthe handlewi-th a socket adapted to receive the tool, in combination with a block and wedge that act to clamp the. end of the tool firmly to place, but upon withdrawing said wedge the tool can be removed for inserting another in its place.

Figure 2 is an end view of thes'ocket for the liandle; and

Figure 3 is an elevation of the said handle and socket.

The handle a is to be ofthe desired size and shape,

and at one end it receives the ferrnle. b, which may be connected to the handle by the screw c.

The end of said ferrnle b is formed as a socket, d adapted to receive the bloc-k e and wedge f, and said' block e and wedge j are each formed with a lip or projection `that prevents their falling ont ofthe socket when no t-ool is in the holder.

To center the toolproperly and to nid in keeping it i n place, I form a longitudinal groove in the socket (l and also in the block e, and in these grooves the tool h `is laid when about; to he clamped to place, and the wedge f acts between the side ot' said block c and the part 'i of socket d,to firmly hold and clamp the tool to place.`

The tool can be easily and quickly removed from the socket by loosening .the wedgef.
