IMPROVEMENT IEN DEVlCESfFOR FASTENING DESKS, SEATS, &c., VTO FLOORS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN D. McAULIFF, of the city and county of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Fastening Seats, and Benches, and Desks, to Floors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing and letters of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 in the drawing shows a. perspective view of my invention as applied to a common desk and seat. i

Figure 3 shows an internal view ofthe slot -made to receive the foot of the desk.

Figure 2'shows an internal view of the slot made to receive each alternate foot in al line in which theseat or desk is drawn.

The object ,of my invelition is to furnish seats a'nd desks with dovetail slotted pieces, to hold them permanently to the door, and' to enable one to readily rcmo'ee them at pleasure.

is a base, made of metal, wit-h an inclined dovetail slot, as seen in g. 3, made, to receive the foot of the leg lf i b' base, made of metal, with an inclined doveteil slot, ndtriinning clear through the base b, made lto receive lthe foot of the leg K. t

E, fig. 3, is a screw, running through the bottom of the base b, and'uscd to fasten the same to the floor.

c, iig. 3, is 'a teat or projection from the bottom of the base 11, and is used to hold the base b permanently in its place when screwed down. The same is on all the bases.

`I screw Jthe base l1 to the door, where I wish to set my desk, and the slot F, being constructed dovetailcd, and inclinng from the side ofthe base 7), and starting from alevel'with thc door, it will readily admit of the foot of the leg H being slipped into it, said foot being made to tit it.

Iplace the base 1;', which `has a dovetailed and inclined slot, F,;t'rom he side of base b', commencing on a level with' the il or, where IA wish the leg Iyrto he placed, to receive the fooi; of the same.` This slot, as seen by'g. 2, `does not run clear through the base b', but has a back to it, so as to prevent the seat or deskfeet- .t'rom wearing or slippingthrough.

I place the bases b and 0' on ev'ery alternate leg in a lin'e in` which I wish Vto move the seat; for instance, it'I wish to construct the seat so I can draw the seat to the rear, I place base bien the foot ofleg H, and b' on ,the foot of lcgK. If I wish to draw the desk endwise, I putibnse l) under the foot of the leg \K, and

base b' under the foot in front of it then l can slip the feet in -and fasten with button a.

Vinit I claim as my im provemcnt in securing desks, tables, &c., 'to floors, is-

rlhe legs, so constructed as to t in the dovetailed pieces b and b', securely attached to the floor, and the legs held in place by the buttons a, when all the parts are constructed and arranged as herein described.
