Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed April 13, 1912, Serial No. 690,561. Renewed August 19. 1913. Serial No. 785.595.
To all whom it may com-cm Be it known that I, Anion A. Gmnnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Annapolis, in the county of Anne Arundel and State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Steve Attachments, of which the following is a specifiezv tion.
This invention relates to stove attachments.
An object of the invention is to provide an attachment which may be disposed above the burner of the stove so as to effectually protect said burner from over-boiling food stuffs.
Another object of the invention is to provide an attachn'ient which is built up of a plurality of separable sections, each having a different transverse diameter so that the device can be made to accomnnnlate a cooking vessel of any desired size.
Another object of the invention is to provide a stove which when combined with the attachment will e'tl'ectually serve to convey the waste matter to the receiving vat.
A still further object of the invention is to construct the separate sections of the attachment with a view to preventing the accidental lateral separation of the sections when the device is in use.
In the drawing forming a portion of this application and in which like letters of ref?- erence indicate similar parts in the several views :"Figure 1 is a top plan View oil" a stove constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. t is a perspective view of one of the pot supporting sections.
\Vhile it is desirable, in view of? the purpose of my attachment to combine there with a particular form of? stove wherein the waste material will be arrested and positively held against accumulating immediately around the burner of. the stove I do not desire to limit myself? in this respect. lVith a view to obtaining the best results through use of the attachment I have conventionally shown herein a portion of a stove having a top 1 which is provided with one or more top openings 2 which are disposed above the burners 3. The walls 2} of each top opening are flared dowmvardly and outwardly and they gradually merge into the annular channels or gutters lin the top 1.
The channels -lcommunicate by way of the branches 5 with a longitudinally extending gutter (3 in the top 1. The gutter (3 preferably inclines slightly toward its discharge end 7 whereby the waste matter or fluids will be made to gravitate to a waste receptacle 8. The receptacle 8 is located beneath the short discharge pipe 9 which extends into the portion 7 of the longitudinal gutter. The channels 4-; as described surround the burner openings and in the event of food stuffs overboiling from the utensils while the latter are above the burners of the stove the matter will be conducted into the annular gutters -land then finally conveyed to the waste vat S as previously described.
The pot supporting attachment- 10 comprises one or a plurality of, sections 11 which may be built up over each burner opening 2. The sections 11 are substantially of. 'fj'rustoconical 'form, being open at their upper and lower ends as shown. ()no section is designed to slightly telescope or fit over the adjacent section and as illustrated each section is of a diflerentdiamcte' and each is provided with a depending flange 12 which is adapted to be extended through the top opening in the section It beneath. in this manner all of the sections 11 may be connected together in a manner that will effectually serve to prevent the sections from becoming accidentally disconnecttal when in use.
The sections it have their flared walls disposed parallel with the walls 3 of the openings 2 whereby matteroverflowing from the boiling receptacle will be conducted by the flared walls of the sections 11 to the gutters -l-. By providing sections 11. of ditt'erent sizes it is evident that the attachment is made to receive or accoinn mlate a cooking vessel of any desired size. It is mentioned that the flared walls of? the sections 11 serve to concentrate the heat rising from the burners and ll 2 application of? the heat to the bottoms of the cooking utensils is materially and :ulvantageously increased.
The construction of a stove as described herein, while being extremely simple and inexpensive to manufacture is most usaful amt desirable in that the clogging of? the burner passages of the stove incident to the overflow o't matter during the boiling operation is entirely eliminated. \Vith a view to facilitating the handling of the sections 11 each section is provided with a depres sion or recess 13 which is adapted to receive a suitable stove lifter or the like, not shown.
1. A stove having its top provided with an annular gutter, the said top having an opening therein, a gutter inclined in the direction of the opening and arranged in open communication with said annular gutter, the said top having a pot opening lying wholly within the said annular gutter, and walls defining the said pot opening and inclined in the direction of the annular gutter.
2. A stove having its top provided with an annular gutter, the said top having an opening therein, a gutter inclined in the direction of the opening and arranged in open communication with said annular gutter the said top having a pot opening lying 20 wholly within the said annular gutter, walls defining the said pot opening and inclined in the direction of the annulargutter, and companion interfitting hollow members opened at both ends and disposed above the 25 nmer walls concentrically disposed With re- 30 lation to the walls of the pot opening.
In testimony whereof I aflix my slgnature in presence of two witnesses.
