CROCKERY OR EARTHENWARE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 349,272, dated September 14, 1886.

Application filed December 31, 18F5. Serial No. 187,302.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JAMES S. DONOHUE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Ill]- provement in Crockery or Earthenware, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a partial side elevation and partial vertical section of an article of crockery or earthenware embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a front view of the cap with connected parts. Fig. 3 represents a sectional view taken on the line at as, Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a chamber vessel or pot formed of crockery or earthenware.

B represents a band of metal, which is fitted around the body of the pot below the flange 0 thereof, whereby displacement of the band is prevented. Fitted to the band 011 opposite places are journals D, and to the same is secured a bail, E. The j ournals-D have on their inner ends flanges F, which pass through openings in the band B, resting against the inner face of caps B, which latter are firmly secured, by soldering or otherwise, to the outer face of the band B, said caps having central openings, through which the bodies of the journals are freely passed, by which provision the journals may readily rotate with the bail or handle (N0 model.)

without liability of being withdrawn from the band.

It will be seen that I provide a convenient means for handling and carrying the pot A, and overcome the objections to the usual handle provided for such articles.

I do not limit my invention to chamber-pots, as any other article of crockery requiring a handle may have my invention applied to it; or, if desired, such ends may be secured to the band, in which case the band is endless, as in Fig. 1.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. An earthenware vessel provided with an encircling band having openings therein and provided on its outer side with caps having central openings, thej ournals D, having flanges F, and bail E, all of said parts being combined substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. An earthenware vessel having below the top flange thereof an encircling band, flanged journals, and caps on the outer faces of the bands having central openings receiving the bodies of the journals, all combined substan tially as described.
