Description

I. & J. WESTGIOTT. Butter-Tub.
Efliateflted June 25, 1.878.
' N. PETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON, D O.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC WESTOOTT AND JENN WESTGOTT, OF ANTWERP, NEW YORK, ASSIGNORS TO MALVIN M. WESTOOTT.
IMPROVEM ENT IN BUTTER-TUBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 205,453, dated Jnne25, 1878; applicationfiled May 15, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ISAAC WESTCOTT and JENN WESTGOTT, of Antwerp, in the county of Jefferson, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Imprm'e ments in Butter-Tubs; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the Figure l is a plan view, and Fig. 2 a ver-' tical section, of our improved butter-tub.
A represents a tin tub of any suitable dimensions, having its upper edge turned over as an outwardly-projecting flange, a, as shown in Fig.2.
B represents a thin and wide wooden hoop, which is placed around the tub A, with its ends overlapping each other and fastened together, said hoop extending from the bottom of the tub upward for a suitable distance, to protect the tub from jamming and bruising.
Under the bottom of the tub A is a wooden bottom, G, which is held in place by means of a rim or band, D, placed and fastened around the lower end of the tub, as shown; or the large hoop B may be extended down below the tub to have the bottom 0 inserted and fastened therein, the rim or band D being simply intended to make the tub stronger, and can be dispensed with when not considered necessary.
Around the top of the tub A is placed another narrow rim or band, E, and between said rim and the tub, on opposite sides, are riveted two metal strips, G G, which extend below said rim, and are to be turned upward and over the cover. when the same is put on the tub, and the strips then fastened thereon by brads, as shown.
The cover consists of the round top H, with hoop or band I.
The butter-tub thus constructed can be manufactured very cheaply, and is strong and durable. I
Having thus fully described our invention. what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, in a butter-tub, of the metallic tub A, provided with the wide wooden hoop B, extending from the bottom nearly to the top, the wooden bottom 0, strengtheningband D, wooden band E at the top, and the cover HI, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 25th day of September,1876.'
