Description

UNITED STATES ROBERT POOLE, OF NEI/V PROVIDENCE, TENNESSEE.
IMPROVEMENT lIN STORE-SHELVING.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 108,823, dated November 1, 1870.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT POOLE, of
New Providence, in the county of Montgomery and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Store-Shelving and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
This invention is an improvement in movable shelving for shops or stores; and the improvement consists in constructing the shelving in two parts, hinged in such a manner that a set oi' sliding drawers may be locked by the locking of said parts, and so that the swinging or folding part will, when open, form a vertical extension of that provided' with the rollers, all as hereinafter described.
Figure l is a front elevation of my improved shelving when in the open position; and Fig. 2 is a transverse section, when closed, with dotted lines representing the open position.
Similar letters oi' reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the-lower portion ofthe shelvin g, on which a counter, B, is commonly placed, and in which drawers O are also commonly arranged. In this eXample it is represented as placed on casters, to be moved out of the store upon the sidewalk; but it may be arranged permanently, if preferred.
D and E represent the narrow shelving rising up from the center B, about half the depth of the latter, and made in two sections, which are divided at F, and hinged together at G. They are closed up behind, as shown.
The upper part, E, of the shelves, being prostance, buttoned or otherwise fastened thereto to hold the goods, may be turned down in front of D to inelose thegoods, and be locked thereto to secure them. For this latter purpose the back I of E may lap the front edge of the counter, as shown at K.
Having thus described my invention, I
. claim as new and desire to secure by Letters The improved store shelving herein described, consisting of the part A B, provided with rollers, and the part E F, the same being hinged together, so that the one may form a vertical extension of the other, or both may fold together, so that when locked or secured the drawers c will be also locked, all as shown and described.
ROBERT POOLE.
