SHOE-FORM;
Patented Feb. E?, i914.
Application filed May 27, 1908. Serial No. 435,274.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, XVILLIAM S. LoUeEn, n. citizen. of the United States, residing at loehester; in the county of Stratford and tete of New Hninpshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe- Forme; and l do hereby declare the following.; to be n full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such es will enable others skilled in. the nrt to which it nppertnins to make and use the same,
The present invention relates to nnirnproveinentA in shoe forms. lts objectv is to produce en improved form having an eX- panding heel portion, capable or' being folded within the fore-part, und the invention consists in the-shoe forni hereinafter described and particularly defined in the claims.
in the eccompanying drawing illustrating the preferred forni of the invention, Figure l is u side elevation of the form, and Fig. 2 a, plan thereof.
The illustrated embodiment oi' the invention is described es `follou-'s:---'l`lie fore-part 1 is inode of peper-board, leather-board, or
the like, und provided at its lower edge with n lip or flange The heel port consists of two boils, one of which hails 3 has its ends pivoted et 4 on o. rivet to the lower rear edge of the fore-part, and the other of which boils 5 is pivoted to the sides of the bail 3 et G. These bells 3 and 5 are ina-de of peper- .bonrd, leather-boord or the like, and, together, lform the heel part ol the forni.
The form is inserted in n shoe with the heel part members collapsed, are shown in the dotted line indicated at 7; then the member 5 is pressed down into the heel portion of the shoe with its lower edge rest-line` on the sole o1' insole, after which the middle 8 of the n'ieinber 3 is pressed down, whereby the toggle is straightened and the fore-part is thrust forward into the fore-part of the shoe and the member 5 of the heel port is pressed hoek against the counter portion of the shoe. `llux two members 3 nd 5 of the heel portion il the form net-like a toggle in this operation and efficiently position the forni in the shoe. When it is desired to remove the form from the shoe, the middle portion of the member 3 is taken hold of and lifted, thereby collapsing the heel portion of the forro. and permitting it to be'lii-tcd so :is to exmhle the form-tjol be retrieved easily r'im the shoe.
Th. zorni, as thus; for described, easy of insertion in the shoe and removal therefrom, und nt the sume time, is adapted to be securelyT heldin place in the shoe. An additional Jfeature of the construction resides 'in the feet that the heel portion of the form may be folded Within end entirely embraced by the fore-part, by turning it to the position indicated .in the dotted line 9. This, is of advantage in certain uses of shoe forms, as, for example, in the manufacture of' :t shoe when it is desired to attach the heel, at which time the heel part can be folded Within the fore-part and the shoe applied to the anvil withoutremovnl of the form from the fore-part of the shoe4 The shoe form of the present invention. is simple in construction7 easily inserted in and Withdrawn from the shoe, sind ena-bles the heel to' be attached without removal of the forni 'during the process of nniling on the heel. This shoe forni is adapted for use not onlyY as e follower in the manufacture of shoes, but also as a display forni und as a tree.
Hoving thus described the invention, what is claimed iszl. A shoe forni comprising a hollow forepnrt and. n heel part pivotnllllT connected thereto, the heel port consisting ;n oil two barils, the one. pivotnlly connected nt its free ends to the oppos e sides of the fore-part, und the other-extending outside of the first nicntioned buil rind having substantially the shape of the heel counter' so that it fits snugly within the shoe heel and p'lvotnll'v connected :1t its free ends to the sides of first mentioned hail nt points in the rear of the (connections between the first mentioned boil :ind the fore-puri, said two bells torining n toggle which is ynfessed ilmvn into the shoe to extend it und force the fore-purtforwnrdly into the shoe, the first unil folding inside of the second bail when the toggle is straightened, substnntiezlly nsfdescribed.
2. A shoe forni comprising a hollow forepnrt und :i heel part pivotally connected (hereto, the heel part consisting of two bnils, one pivotnlly connected at its free ends lo ,he sides of the forepnrt und the other piv-` otollv connected its iree ends to the sides ol the buil, Suid hails forming oftoggle 'fo1.,f..l,1c Ur wose of shortenin f the form for lartlou uml removal from the shoe nmlE being adapted to be foldcd'withhr the hol low oropar while the form is within the` interior of tho 5h00.rv substanlally u# closcrbed.
